Well, I brought Reggie home exactly four weeks ago today from the pet shop. It seems like longer than that, almost.... I can't really remember life without him (already! I've be enslaved!). Anyways, he's always tolerated me holding him and setting him on my shoulder and getting him out every hour or so just to hold him, because I was thrilled at finally having a pet of my own that I could hold and, in a way, pet, that I could feed and everything. Although, I have to admit that I was a bit bummed that he had to TOLERATE me. There was and is no glassdancing, headbutting the glass, none of that. He simply allows me to take him out, gets through my snuggling, and then crawls happily back onto his basking log when I'm done.
So, when my best friend called and asked me if I wanted to sleep over a night and go to a movie the next day (hey, I'm a teen), I figured, 'As long as someone changes his light to her night bulb at seven or eight, and back again in the morning, he should be fine.' Well, it wasn't exactly LIKE that.... :?
I didn't get a call that night, so I assumed everything was O.K. and pulled an all-nighter with my best friend. Don't tell my mom. Haha.
But, in the morning, I was awakened by a call from my little sister. I answered with the usual 'hello' and she goes 'hi', just like any other phone call. Then she says, "Reggie looks hungry. Should I feed him something?" I would have said 'yes' had I anything to actually FEED my dragon. But I knew perfectly well that there were probably no more phoenix worms left in the small cups of them. I hadn't known Reggie would eat so much, so I hadn't ordered enough.
"No, I'll feed him when I get home." I said simply.
"He doesn't look happy."
"Alright, I'll see when I get home...." And we hung up with the usual 'bye'. I didn't give Reggie much thought until the car ride home after the movie.
Alas, when I got home, I didn't even bother to let my stepfather know I was home yet. I marched straight to my room, dumped my stuff on the couch, and knelt down to peer into Reggie's terrarium.
My little sisters came back with 'you're back!' and 'hi!'. Reggie glared at them with pure venom. I blinked and opened the sliding glass doors, and out came the dragon. The glare was gone. Instead, an 'I missed you' expression claimed his face, with those big sad beardie eyes and innocent smiles of theirs. I've never really seen Reggie smile like that, y'know?
He still hasn't let me go. He's sleeping in my hoodie. He keeps doing the commando shuffle that Dexter made famous. So, I gave in happily to being 'mummy the matress'.
Ah, maybe my little man DOES love me.... :love5:

EDIT
Just after this post, I found out with a huge shock that 'Evalyn' was really a guy. My bad. It's been four weeks, he shoulda told me....
So, if I missed anything, and you randomly find a 'she' in the post, that is why.
That also explains beardieparents's post calling my dragon a 'she'.
I feel really stupid.
