Where can I buy Dubia supplies locally?

I am buying some Dubias to start a colony. I found a local person to get them from. Now I am looking for supplies for their new home. I would like to buy locally and avoid shipping fees. What kind of stores sell the paper egg crate flats? I was thinking of calling pet stores, but I find it unlikely they would have them. My next guess is farm supply stores, but they are few in the urban area I live in (Raleigh, NC).

Can I got to Lowe's/Home Depot and buy water crystals used for plants? It seems much cheaper, but I am unsure if it is safe for the little darlings. I'll probably test it on a few before I start using it on the colony.

I am buying 200 mixed sizes. I have a tub and heating pad. My dragon is maybe 5-6 months old.

The water crystals used for plants should work as long as it isn't made by Miricle Gro. May contain chemicals then. You might be able to get the egg flats from your local fast food eateries or Chinese restaurant. Food, you can use a cheap high protein dog food. Screen for ventilation, local hardware. You seem to have the rest, so it sounds like your good.

If you have a Waffle House near you, just stop in there for a meal. I'll stop in the once in a while and ask for a few egg flat. They always give me 3 to 5 and I always give an extra dollar or two tip to keep them coming. Sometimes I don't even have to ask anymore, the waitress will ask me if I need any!

I never could find an agricultural or feed shop that sells egg flats. So I bought some on-line along with some roach food. I got 10 or 20 which should last me a good long while.

Both Lowe's and Home Depot did not have water crystals. I found a specialty nursery that had some. So far it seems to work with them.

I've read you can use toilet paper tubes as well. For my crickets I cut them lengthwise in half. They love them, especially one moldy one for some reason so I leave that one in there.

Lat time I placed an order, it was huge and a long time ago. I don't remember.

But, if you start to place an order, you'll find out the shipping charge before you submit your credit card. If you create a "fake" order and don't complete it, you can see how much shipping is.

I already don't like crickets that much, but still mold is never a good idea. Especially if you feed the crix to your pets.

I suspect that all companies have their share of 'bitter' customers, some rightfully so, but making a post like this is really no way to communicate your dissatisfaction. Especially where there is no supporting evidence.

hey guys... sorry about this post earlier. my husband posted this about 60 seconds after he had a not so pleasant conversation with them about our order. i didn't know he posted it until after the fact.

this was the 1st time we had ordered from PC. we ordered 250 pinheads for the babies last wednesday and today when the order arrived... all 250 were dead. every one of them. we were now completely out of food for the babies, so i was all worried since no one sells pinheads locally. when my husband called them, they said that it was due to the severe heat and that all shipping had been put on hold. but the no-shipping notice was posted and went into effect on 6/17 and i placed my order on 6/16. so i just didn't understand why they shipped them on 6/21 if a shipping strike had been in place since 6/17. i am pretty upset about it (mainly because i had nothing to feed the babies. i had to go to the pet store and pay another $20 for a ton of small crickets and sift through them for the teeniest ones).

anyway... so while my ordering experience with them was not so great, i do apologize for my husband's post. i'm a little more... diplomatic than he is. :roll: i am really sorry if his post was offensive.
