I have a male; I took him to be sexed at a reptile expo. at that reptile expo. saveral breeders said, "Without a doubt, this is a male." Then I bought a, "Without a doubt, female." with hopes to breed. I made sure that they are both old enough (they were when I bought my female) and now I have had them for about 3/4 a year or a year now. I was almost for sure that they would mate and I thought that maybe he didn't find her attractive or suitable (in my oppinion they are both very nice looking), but since she is the ONLY female around, well, duh I have been reassured that if she is the only one available then it will work. I wondered if my male didn't find her healthy enough to mate with, so I have been giving her food whenever she will eat it, and my male too, just in case she refused to mate with him because of how healthy (or unhealthy) he was. I also need to know just in case of you know the " :love5: magic happens :love5:" and they mate, how is a way to tell if she is pregnant? And also, What are good conditions to have her lay her eggs in? Is there a specific time that they need to mate (i.e. time of year)?
Thanks for the help.
God Bless.

Most beardies breed in the spring when it starts to get warm out side but they can breed any time of the year if the conditions are right. If you have another cage i would put one of them in it and like a couple of weeks later reintroduce them so it is like a new mate for the male. Also she might not be letting him breed with her because she may not feel that she is ready yet. As for telling if they are pregnant, they start to eat everything and their bellys get a lot bigger, and towards the time she will lay her eggs if you feel her belly you should be able to feel the eggs in there. For good laying material i use wet sand, some people use a mixture of sand and dirt. You just need to make sure that she can dig down to the bottom and fit her whole body in the hole to lay her eggs.

Thank you for the help. I will try what you have suggested. I have a few questions though. Are there any specific reasons why she would not? As for the "right conditions", what are they?
Thank you again.

Well right now it is cold out so they are not in breeding mode, so when the males try to breed with the females they usualy don't let them unless the temps are up high enough were they can't notice that it is colder then it is in the summer. The females from what i can tell know when they are supposed to breed just from the way their minds are programed. And also some females are just stuborn and don't want to breed with that male.

I would advise reading deeper into this breeding column, and doing a little more research. It's easy to put animals together and let themdo their thing, but you got to be able to take care of the little one that hatch. Electric bill, feeders, and separate housing for the littles one also. I am by no means an expert breeder, but I feel that if you cannot sex your own dragon then you probably shouldn't attempt to breed til you have the further knowledge and understanding of what it takes to do this properly. i found myself doing the same thing you are doing now 4 years ago. I and ended up giving away more dragons than I sold due to the fact that they eat like hogs, I could not afford to feed them. They nipped eachother away, and I ended up with handicapped dragons. Since then I have come to the realization that I could not just breed dragons and get rich. I am not trying to deter you away from breeding, but It is advisable to do some research before you jump into it head first. Good luck!!

I would suggest separateing them for a long period of time before breeding, mine never gets to be with the ladies and he wants to do the do every time he catches a glimpse. How ever i dont let him because a female can lay around 20eggs, meaning 20 babies meaning **** tons of reptile needs. I will breed but I am man enough to say im not ready, i you dont have the room/heating to support 20 babies then i don't think that you should breed yet.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
