What's that mysterious ticking sound?!

Hi fellow beardie slaves,

My manual Brinks wall timer (where you push down the pegs for the hours you want the lights on) that I have my lights plugged in ticks loudly. It's right by my bed and my desk, and it is really annoying when I am sleeping or studying (I have excellent hearing which can be a curse). The only thing is that it isn't constant. It even stops if I unplug the whole thing and then plug it in again, but it starts back up randomly. I've looked online on how to fix it, but I've had no luck. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or do I need to drop some more dough for a better timer? I wish I could sleep as soundly as Custard. As soon as his lights go out, he's out too!

Thanks,
Jessica

-Picks up timer and hurls it out the window.-

I have no idea. . it could be faulty I really don't know. Or maybe it's just like. . a back up thing incase something happens it can still stay on?

You could always just ditch the timer and turn the lights on and off manually, saves money and stops you going insane!

Kind of reminds me of this one time somone hid a ticking clock in my room. . .
Hopefully somone can pop in with more advice for you!

It might just be the mechanism behind the timer malfunctioning or slipping. Is it an old timer, or can you still go exchange it for another one?

I bought it at Walmart like a month ago. I don't have the receipt anymore unfortunately, so returning it seems out of the question. I would probably keep it anyway to regulate household lights when I am out of town if I got a new one (to deter burglars, which has been a problem).

Actually, it hasn't been acting up in the past few days. It's been very quiet. I'll cross my fingers and hope it stays that way. Perhaps my pressing on the pegs and lifting them to make sure that they are either all the way pressed or not helped.

lol the great thing about Walmart is that they just don't care. If you still have the packaging, they probably will either let you exchange it or give you store credit.

How does turning the lights on and off save money? I don't think I could do it anyway because I am late to bed and late to rise, but I'm just curious.

True! You see, I threw away the packaging a while ago. I hate the clutter. Still returnable you think?

Might as well bring it in next time you're there. Worst thing that'll happen is you have to do the rest of your shopping with it if they won't allow you to exchange it.

You're right. I need to get a few things from there anyway, so I will just do that. Thanks :)

I just saw this thread and just today changed all of my timers like that our for digital ones. I had two in my room, one was right by my bed. It drove me nuts! I found over time these timers fail. I bought all of mine about a year ago, and after running a good year (being taken out to change time, etc but otherwise running) the time is off on them. When I unplugged them all today to return them they were all a good 30 minutes off from one another, and I just synched them the last time change. I also had already replaced a few of them due to them just completely being off. For instance, today I found Pablos CHE was still on at 930, when his basking bulb comes on at 8, so it was 95 degrees on the cold size of his tank where the CHE was :banghead: When I unplugged the timer, it said it was 4am. Luckily, I had bought them at my work so my manager let me return them and get the digital ones. I would highly recommend you do so also, as they have a battery that charges when you have it plugged in. So you can actually set it without plugging it in, which was nice! Also, if power goes out, you aren't stuck trying to fix them and get your lights going when it comes back on. And I must say, the silence is the best part!!

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'll get a digital soon. They sound (no pun intended) way better :)

See, I have a different opinion on this situation, haha. I too have the winding timer, with the pegs, and it also makes noise, which I have grown accustomed to and have trouble sleeping without. I LIKE the noise (prob cuz my mind has been programmed to listen to its droning for 4 years now).

I also have digital timers, which are certainly a contrasting difference from their more noisy and manual timers. However, I can never seem to figure out how to use them XD regardless of how computer and phone savvy I am, haha. I currently use on for my skinks, but had my bf figure it out for me.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
