I have a temp gum I use to check the actual surface temp at different spots. And yes the pet store sold me one of those stupid dial stick on ones too. I'm learning :)

That being said what is a good thermometer for in the tank that I can use for a quick reference peek, and do I want a hygrometer too or one of the combo one I see for sale.

Yeah a couple of the small digital aquarium thermometers should do. You don't need to spend much. I'd set one on the basking surface and one on the cool side surface so you can see what the gradient is at a glance. A step up from that would be to get a dimming thermostat that you can program to control the output of the light to keep it within a specific range.

I use zoomed also. Ive got about 6 of them now and if theyre in the same place theyll be accurate with each other to about 0.2 of a degree so fairly accurate

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
