So I have a juvie beardie, and he's a little older than a year. I'm not sure if that's important to know, maybe hotter bulbs are a bad idea? Anyway, Timmy lives in a 40 gallon terrarium. I've been using a 75 watt bulb for awhile, but I figure that moving on to a higher watt bulb would be better since he's in the 40 gallon now. His highest basking spot is a little less than a foot away from his lamp, so I was thinking maybe I should use a 100-watt bulb?
Thanks, Timmy gives his regards.

It really comes down to heat gradient that the bulb is creating in the tank. You could use multiple lower wattage bulbs to create a wide area of high temperatures, or you could use a higher wattage bulb and sit it a bit further away for a similar effect. You could move to the 100w and just raise it up a bit until you're getting 100-105 or so in the basking area. It takes a bit of trial and error and some tweaking to get the lighting just right.

Alright, yeah I think I'll just get the 100 watt bulb and get him a higher basking spot. Thanks for the answer!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
