Hi, im new to the beardie community and i dont know what type of lizzard i have.. I know its a leatherback but other than that i can not tell, please help my little larry get back in touch with his roots! Also my little guy is very alert and often greets me with an open mouth and a nice hissssss (lol) the person i got him from said that she had to force feed him when he was younger.. (smh) so i was wondering if she may have ruined his relationship with humans? Haha sounds funny.. And what are some good ways to make him comfortable with me? (Other than taking him out regularly of course) any help would be great! Thanks! All help much apprecciated

He is definitely a leatherback. The black eyes make me think maybe some translucent genes as well. I'm not sure beyond that. If he isn't used to being handled, just be gentile and patient around him. Spend time around him and maybe try hand feeding a bit and just speak softly and let him realize you aren't a threat. It may take time if he isn't used to handling and proper care but he will probably come around after being in a good environment. Try to keep his enclosure in a busy part of the house if you can so he gets used to activity and being around people.

By the looks of that first photo, I would say you have a very pissed off one. Lol. I don't know what kind he is (I'm still very new to this beardie owning thing) but he is a beauty!

Na, he's just camera shy, lol!
He's probably not real happy with the whole shedding thing going on either.

I don't think it would be good for their eyes to use a flash. This could also cause him to equate you with that extremely bright light and, make him distrust you.

I agree with Cooper, his eyes look dark [ from the pics ] making him a transluscent. As for taming him, once he's been with you for 2 weeks put on some gloves and pick him right up....do so gently but firmly with both hands, then hold him against your chest. Just sit like that for about 10 minutes, then gently put him back. After a week or so, do that for 15-20 minutes. After a month [ or sooner if you see he's calming down ] you can sit in a small, safe room [ nothing for him to hide under or get in to ] maybe a bathroom....and let him sit on your leg on the floor. He should be getting used to it by then and see it more as an adventure.

Thanks for the advice, i looked at his eyes and they are dark brown.. Also his nails are black on the front side of the nail and they turn clear toward the back side.. Would he still be a trans? It all kinda confuses me so thanks for the help haha

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
