What tool to use for....UPDATE

making a vent hole in the lid of my rubbermade? I need something easy to work with. I tried scissors, utility knife and a kitchen knife. Help my husband it out of town so I'm on my own.

Never mind. I did it. I heated up a kitchen boning knife on the stove and it cut right thru. I had to turn on the vent and open the window so the smoke alarm would not go off.

Try a boxcutter. One of those ones that have the replaceable blades than you break the ends off of as they dull works well. Draw your lines on the tub. Carefully and lightly score the tub along the line. Do this very slowly to avoid cutting yourself. After you have the tub scored, go back over it again with the razor and slightly more pressure. Repeat this a few times and it will eventually make it through the plastic and you will have a nice clean cut. Just remember, a light touch and slow for safety.

I started by making a hole with a screw then used small sheet metal shears work well.
