What to do when the power is out?

Hi Friends,

I have had my beardie for a year, and there have been at least 3 occasions where the weather made us lose power. I was wondering what kind of solutions people have when the power is out for too long, and your beardie needs heat? We had recently lost power for a few days, and I wrapped him in blankets with hand warmers - he was not a happy beardie for a while after that... Thanks for the input!

well, i dont live in an area that we lose power in a lot, so just from what i have read... its suggested to keep those handwarmers you were talking about handy, of course blankets, but you could put on a hoodie sweat shirt and put him in your pocket... mine loves to ride around in my pockets lol....

I'm relieved to know I did the right thing. My guy loves hanging out in my hoodies too! He just goes right to sleep!

haha! good!! I work at a vet clinic so he is always in my scrub pockets because they are huge so oneday he wanted to be out of his tank and it was a little chilly in my opinion so i had on my hoodie and put him in the pocket, he had a blast,lol

haha it is very nice that they allow me to bring my animals to work with me, i love my job! All the folks here mostly do dogs and cats, but the day they met Phoenix they all thoguht he was amazing and he hasnt been back in a while so they keep asking when i'm bringin him back.... i'm not allowed to bring htem on the days we see patients but thats understandable

I lost power not to long ago for 4 full days and then some. Luckily, we have a fireplace so we were able to keep him warm in from the fire. Had it not been for that I was either going to place him at a relatives house or a local pet store (a privately owned one) who was taking in animals to board for other people who lost power. Do you have any smallish local pet stores that might be able to take yours in or a friend or relative who would?

12 volt car batt 12 volt to 120. Volt power inverter jumpe cables , and or a battery chager.
This whould work for one bd. With one mabey 2 lights depending one the watts of the power inverter. It also whould b a mess but hey you do what you have to do when needed . Other then that good luck . I live where we can go weeks with out power if a hurrican blows throw . I bought a generated for jst that reson

I have a lot of heat packs. You can buy them by the truckload from a sports store. You can always bundle them up or I will zip them up in my jacket with me and hold a handwarmer on the outside. If I want a boost of heat, I go out to my car and crank up the heat while my beardie sucks up some heat.

Unless it drops below 65, your beardie should be fine for awhile. Just don't over feed them during those few days. another option is to put hot water inside a giant bottle and let him bask on it. If it's too hot, you can wrap a towel around it. I have one of those giant bottle of water thing that you put into water machines that I fill with hot water and it'll stay warm for hours. It's so warm I can fall asleep hugging it on cold nights an just refill when it cools
