What to do about Georgie?

Hi, some of you may remember me from my previous post about Geogie. Georgie has just recovered from a Respiratory Infection and didn't eat at all whilst being treated (she had two courses of antibiotics). Whilst she was sick, I was syringe feeding her baby food with probiotics. Well Geogie is doing great now, she is very active, alert, basking well and back to her old self but just still will not eat!!! I offer her live feeders daily, but she just backs away from them and seems to be scared of them..it is just so odd as she was such a greedy girl before the RI. She is also not touching her veg. I have also tried not syringe feeding her for a whole day to see if she will be hungry the next day. It is two weeks today since her last antibiotic jab and I am still giving her probiotics, so I would have thought that her tummy would have been better by now...any ideas?

Toni maybe if you are not already you could try some soft bodied feeders...or you could resort to an appetite stimulate. Is she saying well hydrated...dehydration, which the meds will cause, will also affect appetite.

Hi Barbara, I have tried very feeder in the book (well, what is available in the UK). wax worms, butter worms, silk worms, super worms, meal worms and locust. You mentioned to me before that I should try to rub the food on the side of her mouth, but when I do this she just looks horrified and backs away :banghead: I am mixing water in with her baby food and bathing her every couple of days. She is pooping daily (although just a small amount) and her urates look very white, well formed and soft, so I think she is well hydrated. She actually looks very well and healthy now, and quite active and alert. For this first time in a long time, it has been very hot and sunny here in London, so I made her a run on the patio so she could soak up some rays, as I thought this would be good for her, but she got really stressed out (maybe because this is the first time she has been outside). When I walked past her, the little madam puffed herself up and hissed at me  She looked so funny and it seemed a shame laugh as I think she thought she was being quite scary. Anyway, I just don't know what to do about the eating, I will syringe feed her for the rest of her days if I have to, but I just want her to enjoy her food again :(

By the way, can you recommend an appetite stimulant - is Avipro any good for this?

I've used the jump start in moderation. I'll have to go find out for you :study: as I'm really not sure what the recommended one would be...I think critical care is the one I read about.

I've read about the Jump Start, but it doesn't seem to be available in UK :(

It sounds very similar.

Just to confirm, that is our version of the critical care and it is great stuff!!! It had Kazi taking an interest in eating again within 2 days of starting on it (and that was after a 6 month hunger strike - I could count the number of worms/locusts he had in those 6 months on my fingers!!) In fact, it turned him into the eating machine that I had forgotten!! lol!!

Thanks for adding that MissT. I didn't want to say it was absolutely the same because I didn't know for sure. I do remember now that you used it on Kazi with great results. :D

Thanks ladies. MissT that is very encouraging! Kazi didn't eat for 6 months - wow!, these beardies can be stubborn little things. I will get some today and report back. I read that you mix it in water, how did you feed it? Is it ok to mix in baby food, or just mix in water and syringe feed it?

You can actually mix it either way. I would try a plastic (please don't use glass) medicine dropper first and see if Georgie will lick it off his nose, some really like the taste of the Critical Care formulas. Then if that doesn't work, you could use the syringe and squirt a little bit slowly in the SIDE of his mouth. Let us know how it goes.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
