What made you buy your first bearded dragon?

I'll start with me firstly my pet hamster died it was only 1 and a half years old. I was so distressed by this it had an awful death and I had to watch but anyways after it died my boyfriend said you could maybe get a lizard, a tortoise or a snake because when I had first got my hamsters I had actually wanted a reptile but my boyfriend wasn't really that keen on them then. So that week I said lets go to Neon Gecko (the pet shop) and I said I definately wouldn't buy one there and then. As I looked round I noticed the bearded dragons all different ages and knew straight away that is what I wanted and obviously I now have 2 bearded dragons! I have wanted a lizard for years and now I finally have them and they are seriously so amazing and I've only had them for 3 weeks.
So how did you come to have your first beardie?

My youngest daughter Amber had one that her bf bought her and id take care of her during the day if she would get upset at me she wouldnt let me touch her so i wanted one of my own and we now have 5 lol They are wonderful pets!

Ive always wanted a pet reptile since i was about 7 years old. It probably stems from an obsession I had about dinosaurs at the time, but my parents were never too keen. I would always joke about wanting a pet lizard when ever i was asked about birthdays or christmas but never expected to get one. Then for my 24th bday (last june) i found out that i was getting a pet lizard. Originally I was going to be given a gecko but managed to convince my parents (yes i still live with them) that a BD was the best choice. So thats how i ended up with my BD, only problem is that i want more pet lizards. I already have my imaginary menagerie, but it will possibly only stay in my mind lol

I bought Puff from a lady who goes to my chirch. We were having a petting zoo at chirch for the 4th of Juily. And she brought along hur full grown lizzard and the babies. I thought the babies were so cute an sweet and I loved how doscle the mom was. Leting kids pet hur and stuff like that. So of corse I told my husband about them. He was like, ANUTHER pet. Are you nutz. But he didnt say no ( I took this to mean yes). So I kept talking him into it and eventuly he said yes but ...not today (no money). So I wated a few weeks and baught suplys and stuff for the soon to be new pet. Then I got a call from the lady (now my friend) saying that she had a juvnile that lost a small part of his tail to a littermate. Would I like to buy that lizzard for a big discount. I definatly did. I feal honord to have a beardie with a handycap as I am a handycaped person. So I guess thay say the rest is history and that is how I got my verry first beardie BABY!!

i got my first one for free my buddy had 2 of them and he kept them in the same cage i know thats wrong but he didnt and when he upgrade to a bigger cage they fought all the time so he said he was going to give one of them away to a guy at work and i said i would take him that way u could still get to see him and he liked the idea so he gave me evrything i needed to have him which was also cool i very quickly fell in love with him and i had to have more so now i have 4 and still want more its an addiction but atleast its not a bad one. thats my story i hope u all enjoyed

My four yr old daughter fell in love with a bearded dragon she saw at the saltwater store. A young boy had brought his in and let her hold it. She was hooked and didn't stop talking about it till Daddy caved 2 months later. He told me to get the stuff around for it's home, he took her and her piggy bank to the bank the next day, and they went and bought a baby from our local Petco. She insisted on naming the poor thing Alex (that's her brothers name). He was a whopping 4 inches long and so little. Now he (I believe he's really a girl) is almost 12 inches and we've only had him for 2 months. Although I am Alex's main slave, Elly does turn his lights on every morning, dumps his crix in the tote, and he does get wrapped up in his 'beardie burrito' and put to bed with her. Not so much for him, but it sure helps her be quiet and hold still at bedtime. Once she is out like a light, Alex goes in his viv till morning. Daddy is almost finished with his new custom viv, and Elly is already telling him that now we can get another baby for his old one... not so sure he will go for that....

I was not the one who ever would have wanted a bearded dragon thinking of all the crickets we had to feed it , i said no way but my son and hubby promised they would take care of it, yeah right we got Colasis and who is the one who feed him yep ME I do love him so much, when the local pet store had a 75 gallon tank on clearance cause it had no hood I made hubby go there and buy it so our guy could have more room to run around. i was just a cat person but now i have love for beardies also.

A water dragon was kind of forced upon me, and I wasn't nearly educated enough to handle it, and sadly Puff the Magic Dragon died

But that got me into this whole HerpHobby thing... So I did some research, found this place, and decided on a beardie. Now that I'm dedicated to diong this dragon thing right and with the help of all of you I'm gonna have a happy and healthy beardie. (see signature for pics and vids)

well i work at a pets store. and my manager used to have a colony of 40 bearded dragons. and he was always telling me about how great they were as pets. well one day when i was feeding them, for the first time, i just sat and watched them eat for like twenty mins and it wasnt until my manager came over to tell me to get back to work that i realized that i had spent just 20 mins staring at them eat. thats when i decided i had to get them. haha

My boyfriend got a "creepy lizard" and I fell in love with the little guy. How can you see them standing up while sleeping and not fall in love? What really did me in was when he jumped out of the bathtub into my hand lol. I loved laying in bed in the mornings before my boyfriend woke up and watching him. So I got my Lilly girl. I cannot imagine life without those spikey snuggles.

I had raised lots of little fuzzy critters and plenty of fish as well but had never really been into reptiles. When my last rat died of old age, I decided it was time to find something a little longer living but I also wanted something completely new. I knew a snake was out of the question (my gma who I live with is TERRIFIED) so I looked into lizards. I remembered a teacher I had who had 2 female beardies so I added them to my list. After months of researching various lizards and their requirements, I decided on a beardie! I had to wait another month while I moved but I had found one at a Petco that a friend works at (and the only decent one I've ever seen). I fell in love and went to visit it ever couple of days until I had everything ready for him. Then came the day I got little Loki...and my boyfriend fell in love with his new beardie Ryuk (that I've been taking care of until his equipment is set up). I've been in love ever since! Now I'm trying to think of ways I can house more!

Yuck Creepy crawly snake and stuff!!! That was me for a long time. I had had cats,dogs,guinea pigs etc.... growing up and thought reptiles of ANY kind were disgusting. After having my cat start using my bath tub for a litter box and having to put him outside I wasn't looking for any more pets. One day we were visiting a friend who does animals rescues(he owns a graphics business but also rescues animals I found snakes there and started looking around he asked if I wanted to hold one and I agreed. I fell in love with his snakes and would play with them when we went to visit.
One day my husband was visiting to get our friend to make a stencil for him and I was playing with the snakes,my hubby said "Honey come look at this" I walked over to where he was and there was this lizard head bobbing a turtle. (Had no idea what kind of lizard it was.) After watching it for a while my hubby asked what I would think about one o fthose for a pet. I told him I didn't even know what it was let alone knowing how to care for it. He told me to do some research and find out about them and then suggested that I find a forum.........Here I am and after several months of research we got our first beardie,she's been with us almost a year as well as a leopard gecko. Now we are waiting on the arrival of our second beardie who should be home next week.Sorry this was so long,but wanted to explain.

I really wanted to buy a snake but my mom said no. I tired like hell to fight it and make her change her mind but that just ended with her yelling at me. I maybe 19 but I hate it when my mom yells at me, it makes me cry all the time. And seeing how I still live with her and she doesn't make me pay anything, like some of my friends parents do, I just let it go. She did tell me I could get a hamster or something like that. I had thought about the idea for a week or so, going to pet stores and looking at all of the hamsters. I then looked over at where the reptiles were. I went home and asked my mom "Since I can't have a snake could I have a lizard?" and to my surprise she said yes. The next week I sent to the pet store and saw the beardies instantly falling in love with them :love5: :love5:

I went to zoo creatures aka New England Reptile Distributers w/ my son to look at flyin squirrells for his 12th b.day.
i wasn't keen on the squrrells becouse they bark n smell.
We saw the beardies n they were so cute.The guy ook one out n it tried to jump n run.....i looked in the viv n said can you hand me that one?It was just cocking its head lookin like you can pick me up....i got her in my hand she crawled to my shoulder n it was love for me n Malibu!She is going to be 3 next month.

Hmm... well, I'd been into snakes long before Budo came into my life. I would say hi to the baby beardies at PetCo every week when I went to get mice and rats for the snakes. One day I decided I'd get myself a Christmas present. At the time, I had assumed that they were 10-gallon lizards, since I had only seen the babies. But I wasn't new to the world of reptiles, I knew better than to get one from PetCo, and I knew to research. Once I found out how much time, money, and space they were, I said "Absolutely not, I don't have the time, the money, OR the space", but the thought kept nagging me and I realized that I was already set on it. So, six months later, here came Budo! :love5: :lol: I still don't have the time, the money, or the space for him, but with a combination of breeding feeders, building his viv, borrowing, and getting a few hours less sleep every night, I manage to spoil him properly. :mrgreen:
