What is your adult beardies salad?

I feed Lucy mostly squash, cucumbers, and some leaf lettuce (which she doesn't really eat). I get her lettuce from a grocery store by the pet store & all they really have is kale, romaine, red romaine, red leaf lettuce (if i remember right), and leaf lettuce.

What do you use?

I was using collard greens and my dragon very rarely ate any. He is a juvenile though so that's expected from what I understand. Then I tried turnip greens and he didn't seem interested in those. Today I bought some mustard greens and I topped them with grated carrots, which I do occasionally to add color and he started eating the carrot pieces out of the salad! It's the first time he has eaten veggies that weren't just accidentally stuck to a cricket. Before I fed him crickets I dropped some pieces of mustard greens in front of him on his basking rock and he ate those, then went back to the salad and picked out the rest of the carrots. I have also mixed in kale, escarole, zucchini, yellow summer squash, and bell peppers. But like I said this is the first time he's really shown interest in the veggies, he's 11 1/2 inches now so I guess he's finally getting to the size where he needs some greens.

EDIT * cucumbers really don't have any nutritional value although they are a good water source, and I read that all lettuces should be avoided because they have low nutritional content and can cause runny stools.

I usually mix Mustard and collard greens with a little boc choy and brussell sprouts and then drizzle the salad with baby food squash and sometimes I add a red or yellow pepper to the top. If I try to give Harry just one green he looks at it and walks away. When I mix his salads, which takes 1/2 hour every morning and afternoon, he will take a bite or two. He is so stubborn, lol. He likes his protein and not much salad and Harry is 2. :banghead:

I chop up and mix my greens in a tupperwere bowl and its usually pretty fresh for 3-4 days. Might save you a little time.

I don't use any kind of lettuces due to their poor nutritional content. My salads usually contain at least 2 types of greens (collards, mustard, dandelion, etc.), grated squash, small amounts of grated cucumber sometimes, same with grated carrots, chopped spineless prickly pear cactus pads (excellent staple), some chopped bell peppers, and occassionally a couple of blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, etc.--whatever fruit I have on hand. Then I sprinkle it with Repashy Superveggie supplement.

ETA: I also include edible flowers, clover, mint, basil, and other various herbs from my garden (pesticide and fertilizer free of course).

I did see some fresh mint and basil leaves there. I passed over it, though. I have no clue where to get collard, mustard, or dandelion greens though! I will have to look elsewhere.

She LOVES the cucumbers. I can't take them from her! I put a lot more squash in, though. I did get her Kale, and she didn't seem to like it much, but I probably could try again if that is better.

I just bought some squash baby food incase I run out of everything.

The greens are usually in bunches next to the different lettuces--almost all grocery stores have them.

My salads have collard and mustard greens, kale and romaine lettuce. I top it off with shredded carrots or yellow squash. You should mix it up so they don't get bored.

I'll look again, or at another store, but I'm not sure.

I can get them at walmart, publix, and winn dixie. Either in bags already chopped up, or whole leaves in bunches.

Same, among other grocery stores. No type of lettuce makes an appropriate staple green for a beardie's salad, small amounts can be added for variety, but there nutritional value is extremely minimal.

My very healthy 4 and 5 month old dragons love my garden salad every morning! I chop up mustard greens and mix them with grated and chopped fresh summer yellow squash! I mix the cut greens and grated squash together! Great moisture content too! My dragons chomp their pile of salad everyday! It helped a lot their breeder fed them the same salad mixture from very young!! I paid for her specialized care and attention to my dragons when they were babies! Local pet stores serve their dragons meal worms and dragon food from the cans they sell???? You reap what you sow! Both my dragons are big and very healthy!

I make a very nice salad for Harry every day. I give him collard or mustard greens, mixed with a slice of cucumber or whatever veggies I have, then I started topping it with a slurrie but he still stares at it and will take a bite here and there but thats it. He prefers his stupid super worms. Refuses to eat crickets so I am starting to worry because he isn't getting the powder calcium like he should be. I started feeding him some squash baby food in a dropper and I did get him to eat at least one dropperful a day, past 3 days, but still no calcium powder. I did dust his worms this morning and even though most fell off he did get a little. What else can I do? He gets both UVB light and natural sunlight right now, but as fall approaches and then winter the natural sunlight will be none because it will be too cold. Any ideas????? I am worried about MVD because he doesn't seem as energetic as he used to be. This is Harry ignoring his salad

Mummapinkham,
My bearded loves super worms too! She will ignore her salad for a while until I drop a few super worms on her salad to get her attention and she munches it all up!

I will try that. I just want to make sure Harry gets the calcium he needs and the supers aren't enough. He needs his veggies too.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
