What is the science behind genetic droopy eye?

I was wondering about this. I did a site search for droopy eye but nothing like this appeared. My Nim has genetic droopy eye and I'm wondering, where does it come from? Like, where did it originate? Anyone know?

It could be a genetic condition that inhibits production of collagen around the eye. I'm not sure if there have been any studies done about it but that would be my best guess.

Also on the shoulder pads, it's very difficult to determine EXACTLY what they're used for, especially since scientists don't really have a strong motiviation to study the bearded dragon as it's not used as model organism for experiments. The reasons you were given (scaring predators, attracting mates, or thermoregulation) are probably the best guesses you can get without going into the wild to do observation or removing shoulder pads from lab dragons to see how they are affected (which would just be really mean).

That sounds reasonable. But oh please someone answer with the science instead of guesses. I'm saying that because of the "What are bearded dragon shoulder pads for?" question and no one knew. Someone must know something other than guesses. Any mods? LOL, I have a feeling this is going to turn out exactly like "What are bearded dragon shoulder pads for?" But that sounds like a very good guess randommonks.
