What is the best way to feed your bearded dragon veggies.

I tryed to feed Caboose my bearded dragon veggies. Every time I put it in his cage he just looks at it and let the veggies dry out. What is the best way to teach him to eat his veggies? I did try red veggies but it didn't work.

Unfortunately the little guys don't take to eating veggies right away. They're no different then kids...LOL
If you feed him worms you can try putting some on top of his veggies to make them more appealing.
Sometimes it just takes a while for them to start eating them. Some people suggest putting the salad in the tank for their first feeding when they are real hungry(before you put any live feeders in).

Reggie has learned that I won't give him worms or crickets until he eats his salad. Sometimes, I put his worms IN his salad, and he usually misses and chomps down on salad. Then he looks at me like 'Look! I did it!' It's funny!

Generally, beardies will also like something like fruit or veggies on top of their salad. A 'flavor topping' as I was told by another user. They also like calcium dust if it tastes good.... to them. Don't taste it yourself! Hehe.

I myself have a personal experience tip. I bought my Reg a jar of the cheap babyfood. Squash type. If you're trying this, make sure the jar contains only squash and water! I guess it smells really good to them, because Reggie trys to eat the whole spoon! I then put a dab (just a dab) on the top of his salad, the smell attracts him, and he eats.

It is different with all dragons, of course. It also depends on the age of your beardie. Babies tend to ignore salads, too calm for them.

Good luck, if your dragon is like mine, he should start eating veggies in a couple days with these tips.... they worked for me.

I also agree, give him his veggies and fruit in the morning before you give him his crickets. He'll learn he has to eat at least some of that to get what he really wants. Worked for my boys!!

My beardie didn't take well to veggies for a while, either. Trust me though, when they're hungry they'll learn to go for them

Also, when I first stuck the bowl in there he didn't look too interested. I picked up a leaf and sort of wiggled it in front of his nose and he loved that. After the first bite from my handfeeding, he started eating out of the bowl. Good luck and don't give up!

Can babyfood harm beardies? If they don't I'm going to try the idea with the babyfood.

I don't think it will hurt them...maybe just make their poo runnier :bleick:

yeah babyfood is ok....just make sure there are no added things in it....like said above, eg. just squash and water.....but it is justlike feeding them there veggies blended up....but some get addicted to it and alwasy want you to hand feed them it.... little brats they are just like kids, exept they always get what they want, i just can never seem to say no. haha

The are just like kids picky! We did the wiggle the veggie thing with Chimera and thats all it took , he dosnt like fruit at all yet but he sure can smack down his veggies, he eats all the crickets he wants and i give him a snack about 2 hours later and its munch munch no more veggies. I need to try the baby food see if i can get him to eat a varity.

I tryed the squash babyfood on him. He went crazy when I put it on a spoon for him. Then I tryed it on his veggies, he was looking at it for a while and he walk on top of his food dish. Food went over his tank and he flicked the baby food on the class.

I yelling at him for 3 min about the mess in is tank, then he looked at me like I was crazy.

What am I going to do with him
