What is better 40 or 55?

I have recently come across a 40 gallon breeder and I have Rampage in a 55 gallon. I just don't know what would be better. To me the 55 gallon seems too tall and narrow, but then the 40 gallon seems so short, and he doesn't seem to like that.

So opinions please! Thanks.

Hello there,
You generally want more floor space, so I would go with the breeder. He will have much more room to turn and scamper around.

Thats what i was thinking, he just looks so grumpy in his new tank. Maybe I can convince my hubby to build just 1 more cage, a little at a time so it doesn't break our bank. I'm sure it will just take him some time to adjust.

I wouldnt worry about the grump. Dragons notoriously hate change.
When I switched Miso from paper towels to slate tiles she spent two days on her rocks trying desperately not to touch the "new icky thing".

I agree, I would go with the 40 if you absolutely can't build one. Pudge is in a 55 right now, but we're getting ready to build a 4x2x2. The 55 is way too narrow!

Uh, this seems contradictory to me. (I have a 40 gallon breeder and a 50 gallon, and the 50 gallon definitely has more floor space.) What are the dimensions of the two tanks? In other words, what is the floor area for both tanks?

55 gallon tanks are only 12 3/4" wide. 40 gallon breeder is 18 1/4 " wide, but is a foot shorter

660 sq. in. for the 40 gal breeder and 615 for the 55 gal. Interesting. And yeah, 12 inches isn't much turn around room!

If you have a 55 reptile tank, they are wider. I found one in our local area that was 15 inches wide and 4 feet long. We didn't buy it because we prefer something wider (also it was too long for where we had to put it) and had found a 40 tank that was 3 feet long and 18 inches wide. The 55 tank that's 15 inches wide will work, but if your dragon gets to be as long as some I've read about (20+ inches long) than you will need something wider than that.
