just an off topic question wondering how other members got into the novelty of having a bearded dragon as a pet. rescue stories, fanatic stories, feel free to share. i personally always thought it was a crazy idea to have reptiles because above all i am a dog person. bully breeds in particular. my fiance' was the one who actually got me into it because she was interested in having one with as a pet ( which of course turned into two because heisenberg has some nice coloring ). now i'm more into the care thing and making sure everything is on the level and she just likes to love on them. reguardless to say both canines and beardies will be in my life permanently. :blob5:

I was raised with cats, then i had birds, rabbits and guinea pigs. But my partner was allergic. So we started looking into lizards. The first herp we got was a eastern tiger salamander, then we got a painted turtle. But we were forced to get rid of them. Then we got shuji our first lizard a uromastyx. It took a while to get the lights rights and temps. But he was a rescue from craigslist. Before we got him he never had lights and lived in a 10 gallon tank with a diet of iceberg lettuce. But my partner and i felt our family wasn't complete. So we rescued an adult bearded dragon that we named kaisei. Kaisei was fed a diet of primarily crickets and mealworms. We are trying to get him off annoying crickets and nasty mealworms. As soon as we brought them both him they were taken to the vet. Both has minor parasites but nothing some meds could fix

Hello,

I think what got us into reptiles was just seeing our first one sold me. I wanted to care for a different type of little soul. Our first dragon chose me, essentially. :D

There was a local petshop around the corner from me and I would go there to buy peanuts and birdseed to feed squirrels and such along the cliff paths here. One day I went in and they had an adult dragon - Dave - who needed rehoming. He was such a sweetie! I don't know why I never really looked at reptiles before but I hadn't. The shopkeep let me hold him and I was smitten at once.

Since I rent a flat, pets have always been out fo the question really. But I wrote to my landlady and asked permission. By the time she replied Dave had found a new home (yay!) but landlady thought they looked pretty cool, and said unfortunately now her teenage daughter wanted one too. lol.

Had permission, shop owner got me a 5mo old from his brother who is a breeder. In a way Dave being adopted was really good for me because I did a couple months of serious reading to make sure I really could do the best for a dragon. :)

Now I can't imagine not having my poochy bellied Mort!

We babysat someones Leo for 10 days and loved it. I told my co worker how much we loved the Leo and she told me about beardies. We adopted Frankie and Rosie two weeks later, both leatherback hatclings, and we have been in love with them ever since. They are ao much more than just lizards. They are so bonded to us, and we to them. Adoration might describe how I feel.
We adopted our third, Kitty, as an abused baby and we adore her too. She is struggling with a large tumor right now and that really hurts my heart.
This Thursday will be Rosie and Frankie's third gotcha day with us. Hard to believe. They have seen us through alot of hard times. Love them so much.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
