Not that it's going to matter much, gotta buy what the stores sell, and nobody has reptisun in any size under 36", which is too large for my cage. So I'll be buying a reptiglow 10.0 instead. Just curious what you guys think of them anyways.

Its evil.. dont buy it.. it messes with their vision.. and is just more harmful than useful..

look online for a repti-sun... :X petmountain supposably has good deals..

i got mine on amazon

I have used them in the past with no problems (knock on wood)
Look out for any eye issues or your dragon avoiding the light.
You should be fine.

Sorry to disagree with you, Tom. You shouldn't be fine. A lot of dragons are injured by these. They can cause eye problems and other problems. Its safest just to order the ReptiSun 10.0 from petmountain.com. They sell all sizes.

I know many many many beardie owners who use the reptiglo and their dragons are beautiful and healthy. I know a couple people who have had sickly dragons with it. However, I can say the exact same thing for the reptisun. If you have done your research you would know that every bulb on the market has had reported bad side effects. INCLUDING the repti-sun, and the megaray. Every bulb has their pros and cons.

To the OP, you will probably be fine, just make sure you have the bulb a safe distance away, and watch for any signs of lethargy, over-closing the eyes, etc. From the reports ive read of its testing it usually puts off "too" high levels of UVB instead of low levels, so some of my friends make the distance 10in away instead of the 6,and they have had no problems. Just make sure you have a bright white bulb(thats what protects their eyes from the UVB rays)

In every manufacture process there is room for error, which on the other end may end up causing damage to a pet. Saying that i have had very bad experiences with the reptiGLO, as have many people in the last few months. Once the bulb was swapped for a better one, the issues resolved. I have not heard of any issues with the reptiSUN (1 i know of needed replacing at 4 months but thats it) including this website and some local owners i know.

I think most people are given them by pet shops, along with a whole host of other incorrect info, which once is all changed corrects the issue, so its difficult so say its always because of the bulb, all i can say to the OP is i would never trust one again.

well, if I find it to be throwing off too much UVB, I can put the shield on. This light came with a plastic cover over it's bulb, which I wont put on, a walmart 10 dollar light fixture, because I'm told it decreases the UVB, unless there's an issue. I'll also be afixing it to the very top inside the cage, he normally sits on a peice of wood 6 inches away or a rock that is more. This new halogen bulb I got runs so hot he sits on the floor alot and it actualy turned the screen white. Hopefully it's massive fillament will outlast the megaer lifespan of my other ones, plus it permits him to bask in locations other than only the branch. I do also have a larger shelter I just added (one of those half-pipe bark thingy's) so he can get out of the UVB if it irritates him. Hopefully I can get an exchange at the store. The store also tells me that they use said brand for all of their reptiles. I checked all of their beardies and they all seem fine. They have a couple dozen atleast, and I'd say atleast 10 bulbs? the cages house multiple dragons and every one of them is wide eye'd and alert and watching your every move.

The good news is, with petland remodeling and under a new owner they want suggestions. I plan on giving them a list of things that I need that they don't have. Reptisun 10's being one of them.

the plastic shield esp if it was originally a normal florescent fixture will block all UVB from passing through it. only specially made glass and plastic's can allow UVB to pass through and even those will block some amount of UVB. the best thing to do is move the bulb higher if you think your beardie is getting too much.

Remember lighting isnt a bulb. To qoute some knowledgable people in the industry. It is a process. That process involves using some common sense. If you use a repti-glo and your dragon shows issues you change the bulb. Same goes for any bulb on the market. EVERY bulb has had or will have an issue at some point. As RESPONSIBLE keepers, its up to us to make sure we are paying enough attention for when something does go south.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
