What are your bathing procedures?

I bathe Lemon 2-3 times a week. I use a 3x3 shallow tub and make sure the water is warm but does not burn. I put a small rock so that she can climb out off the water if she want to. She stays in the water for about 20 minutes. Then she is dried off with her own towel with no loose fibers that her nails could catch on.

I would like to know what everyone does for bathing. How you measure water temps. Do you always use the bath tub? Do you use any kind of soap. This is what I am most interested in. Lemon occasionally gets her feces smeared on her legs and tail and I feel like water is not enough to get her cleane off.

If the water is warm to the inside of the wrist, (just like with a baby) then it's warm enough.

I just use the bathroom sink to bathe my guy. No soap for us.

Some people use this: http://www.beardeddragon.co/index.php?route=product/product&path=73&product_id=180

Thank you! That's kind of the reasoning behind my water temperature. If it's safe for a babies bottle then it's good.

It should be lukewarm...Like if you were giving your baby a bath, not their bottle...

Really? I heard it needed to be higher temps because it cools down too quick and shocks the beardie.

I've always used lukewarm water. Never had a problem in the 8+ years I've been keeping them.

I've never even heard of what you're saying..."cools down and shocks them..." :? Where'd you hear that from?

Not as in a sudden electric shock. Lemon seems to enjoy the warm water much more than when it is cooler or "lukewarm". It seems that when the water begins to cool down she starts to freak out. But as to where I heard this from it was on a thread here. I'm glad to know that your practices have worked for you in your years of beardie husbandry :)

We use the bathtub. Hot water around 90°, measured with zoo med heat gun.

Never heard of shock, but have read numerous warnings about getting too cold when water temp drops. We keep adding hot water every 5 minutes or so.

We used a little high sided plastic tub when Drac was little but now that he can jump out of that, we use the bathtub. I keep the water a little warmer than lukewarm but definitely still comfortable enough for a baby. I put a washcloth down and his old herp-hotel for him to climb out of the water. He soaks for 15 - 20 minutes and if he's crawled through poo that day or pood in the tub, he gets a little scrub with a very soft bristled toothbrush and some of the soap that was posted a little ways up top. We got the 'baby fresh' stuff and it smells great. Not too heavy. And Drac really seems to like his 'toothbrush massage' too. But that portion of the bath we do over the sink as I just rinse him off real quick after.

Havoc also gets a bath in the bathtub. I use an aquarium thermometer in the water the entire time. I keep the temperature at 94 degrees, that is the temp he likes. I keep adding hot water when the temp starts to drop to keep it at the 94 degree mark. Havoc will stay in there for an hour if I let him. I will let him stay as long as 1/2 hour at a time but usually not. When he is done he gets burrito-ed in his towel until we get out of the bathroom, then he usually squirms out of the towel so he can go run around before he heads back into his enclosure to bask.

Oh...never thought about the aquarium thermometer. I'll have to try that. I know measuring the surface of the water with the heat gun is where the coldest water is (electrons moving slower) so I keep it above 90° knowing it is warmer on the bottom where his belly is.

I swear he swims to where the warmest patch of water is. That's why I like the tub because it is slopped so one end is deeper and the back end is shallow enough for him to get his feet on the ground.

Do you use the soap mentioned above? I am considering getting it since I will only use it when necessary, but I was hoping there would be an alternative soap such as diluted baby soap. Also, what is Cherry? I see it in your signature but I can't quite tell what kind of rodent it is.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
