Welcome Toothless {6 year old male adopted beardie}

I adopted him from a couple off of craigslist. Poor little guy didn't have a UVB light and wasn't being fed properly. He was a free beardie and roamed their apartment but never had daily heat/light/food/water or vitamins. He is pretty skinny imo {he is 14 oz.}. My other male beardie is less than a year old and weighs 15 oz. The tank they gave us was a 20, but I could never put him in something that small. So we went and got him a UVB light, Ceramic heat emitter, and a very large tank! I re-named him Toothless {his previous name was Tic-Tac} like from the movie How to train your dragon! He is really weak and can't hold on to anything very well. When he eats its very very slow. Even his tongue is slow so catching crickets and even superworms takes a huge amount of effort. We started off by bathing him and feeding him squash baby food to clean him out and see what his poopies looked like to make sure he was doing okay. There was hardly any urate the first night, but since we have had him he has had large healthy poopies and lots of urate so I know he is hydrated.

Aww, he's purdy :D I'm glad that you've taken him under your care. I bet he's a lot happier now that he got himself a proper slave. :D :D

Congratulations on the new boy. :D
Good that you are starting him out slow on solid foods...it's best to get them really well hydrated before offering any supers. I'd personally use something like hornworms or butter worms to start with him. You know something soft bodied and that move slow. :wink:

Again Gratz!

Congratulations on your new addition!

I also adopted a 6 yo male. He was extremely defensive, thin and had a reputation among his keepers at the shelter as a biter. It has been very satisfying to see him come around. Until he began brumation last month, I had been handling him daily but now I just give him a 15 minute bath once a week to keep him hydrated until he decides to eat again. He has calmed considerably since I got him, and put on a lot of weight. Although I don't think he'll ever actually like being handled, he's not working as hard as he used to to get a nip in at me.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
