Weird eye movements/ eye damage?

So I bought a new UVB bulb for my beardie, mushu, and it goes inside his tank instead of shining through mesh. I've had him for 3 1/2 weeks. I hung it about 7 inches away from him on the back of his tank. When I hung it up he kept looking at it. I came in to check on him and noticed these very weird eye movements. It was like his bottom lid dropped down and some weird film like stuff came over his eye. The film looked like it came from the bottom, not the side. It was very quick. (sorry this is the best explanation I can provide.) He has recently finished shedding so I know that isn't the problem. He keeps closing one eye at a time. But he has done this his whole life so I dont know if that is relevant. I dont know if his eyes are damaged or what I'm going to do about his UVB. Please help! Thank you!

I forgot to mention that his eyes seem totally fine now. No crust or film or anything.

What type and, strength is the uvb light?

Is it a T8 or T5HO?

He is to close to it. A 10.0 t5 ho is a very strong light, he should be at the very closest, 11 inches from it. On top of the screen 8 inches.

Hello,

I agree, minimum distance is 10-12, for the T5 tube. That would be fine if you mounted it underneath of the screen at that distance.
I would get some sterile saline solution to help out his eyes since they are probably irritated somewhat. Are you using a bright white light for basking, mounted alongside the T5?

Definitely put it on top of the screen. He will still get good uvb and you will save his eyes from such irritation + possible damage. People are giving out confusing info on bulb placement, you may read that the t8 needs to be 6" away but they don't. 8-10 is the closest for a t8, 12-14 for the t5.
