Funny how I just made a thread a couple days ago about why my male beardie has never black bearded, puffed up head bobbed or anything and now this. I just got back from the reptile store and got him a hammock for his tank because I noticed alot of beardies love sleeping in them. So I set it up and picked him up and put him in it because I wanted him to know it was there so he could explore it and such and maybe even use it tonight. When I picked him up he was absolutely fine nice and calm didn't try to get out of my hands which he does sometimes. Then I put him in the hammock and pet his head a little bit and talked to him about the hammock then I closed the tank and started unloading the crickets I just bought into their container. I look over at him and he is completely black bearded and puffed his whole body up. Why would he do this? I have had him for 3 months and never seen anything and then when I put him in the hammock all of a sudden he gets super pissed? Any ideas?

they don't like change.

lol

he probably doesn't like the hammock. was he able to get off of it on his own? maybe he couldn't figure out how to get off it and was getting mad.

take it out for a bit, then try putting it next to his basking area for him to see and smell.

when you put it up again don't put him on it, just let him get used to it being there.

Yes, he jumped right off of it after sitting there for about a minute or so. I have been putting the crickets on it to lure him onto it but haven't been physically placing him on it at all. Plus he is about to shed so I suppose he is a bit cranky. Thank you for the reply that really was the weirdest thing.

We just got a new hammock for Jango as a Chrismtas present, he's almost 12 months old and he's never had one before. He won't go near it on his own so when I have him out and go to put him back into his viv.. I place him on his hammock so he gets to know it and feel safe around it.. but he usually sits there for a moment or two and runs off it as well. I was told that the netting may irritate their scales and they may not like the way it feels.. so I placed his blanky on it and he will sit on it for about 5 minutes before jumping off it now. I think they just need to get use to it being there, like anything else.

Thanks so much for the comments guys! He goes in there all the time now! I guess he was just scared at first. He black bearded one other time a couple days ago I was taking him out to give him a bath and at first he was fine and then when I put him on my shirt I noticed his black beard. I think it might have been because he saw my cat that just came into the room as I was taking him out. Do you they more moody in their adolescence or something?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
