I have a dire situation with our boy Spark. Before I explain his situation, I must explain that I am a feeder . . . someone who gains emotional satisfaction from feeding others. I could never own a greyhound or whippet because they are skinny by nature and I would obsessively worry about what was wrong with them. I would try to overfeed them, as well.
Okay, so Spark, ever since he came out of brumation, has been an even pickier eater than he was prior to getting so sleepy. I am offering butter worms, which is the only thing he has shown any interest in at all, daily, but he only eating them twice a week. In fact, I have had some luck with only offering him worms every other day, but even then he will only eat three or four. I am also offering a huge bowl of either collard, mustard or turnip greens daily, which I believe he is eating, but mostly he is scattering it all over his viv. He won't eat squash, carrots, banana, or anything else. I have offered phoenix worms, crickets and roaches and he won't go near them. I have tried the iguana bites and dragon bites but he won't even go to that side of the viv when I've left him bites. He is getting a bath once a week, because he is back to not wanting to be handled. I have huge scratches on both arms from where he fights to get away. When he puffs out at being picked up his spines are so sharp both myself and my son have gotten cuts from them.
So, there are two things in particular that are bothering me. First, he is losing weight. I weighed him three weeks ago and he was at 495 grams. Last week he was at 485 grams. I weighed him this morning and he is 475 grams. His length is 19". As close as we can figure, Spark was a year old on January 1.
The second thing that is worrying me is his poo. It is mostly urates. The urates are moist and white, but the darker fecal matter is minimal. Not much volume. Its been this way since he woke up.
First off - do I need to be worried? Second, what can I do?
Thanks,
Mom to Spark and Embyr
