OK my little guy has been in brumation state for approx 4weeks maybe 5. he did the same thing last year around the same time...it was 4months before he was back to himself. He is approx 1.5yr old.
Anyway when I noticed he was beginning to cut back on his food intake, I weighed him About 5 weeks ago, and he weighed 408g.
I take him out of his hide box every sunday to give him a bath to keep him hydrated, and I have been monitoring his weight each week as well...the 1st week check he was 410g, 2nd week check 409g, 3rd week check 414g, 4th week check (today) 423g...he has actually gained weight is this normal?
When I take him out for his weekly bath he is pretty bright eyed looking around squirms a bit when put into the bath...he seems pretty normal...he will stay out of his hide for a day or two and bask and move around his viv, with in 24-48hrs he is back in his hide box for the rest of the week, until next bath.
I offer food and water in his viv every day he doesn't touch it. OK thats not completely true he will toss his greens around the viv and make a mess when he is up and about, but I don't think he eats any.
Last year when he brumated I fed him slurry every day I was so worried cause he was not a year yet...he lost a few grams but not too much I think the total loss in the 4 months was around 20g he went from 385g to about 360g-365g. Not a dramatic loss, and once the days got longer and the storms stopped he snapped out of it and started eating like a piggy again...until now his time to rest for the long canadian winter again.
So is it normal that they gain weight while brumating? maybe my scale is just weird...???
Thanks
