Weeping Eyes/Vision Issue

Hello all,

My dragon Edward whom is 12 years old appears to be having a problem with his eyes/vision. For the last 3 months he has had one eye weep when he feeds in particular and sometimes a bubble/tear stays on his eye. I read on this website to just softly clean with a moist q tip, so I have been, no issues, all is well. In the last couple of weeks its both eyes now which I think is what is messing with his vision which... Duh... It would mess with my vision to have some goop on my eyes. In the last 3 days he has become more aggressive which I just thought was due to recent feedings. This morning I went to feed him greens and I am unsure if he could see what I was holding in front of him. He can smell me for sure, and knows where his dish is but appears to be slightly struggling to eat as in doesn't quite have the depth perception or what... I don't know, but I am worried for my little man... He is a long time friend. :(

His substrate is ceramic tile, UVB: reptisun 10.0

Hi there....your buddy sure has lived a good long life ! But I'm sure you want him around for a while longer and in good health. Do you supplement with any calcium or vitamins ? It might be good to give him a good multivitamin once a week if you don't already... although it isn't necessarily related it may be. To help his eyes you can use raw unpasteurized honey from a beekeeper or health food store. It works as a natural antimicrobial/anti -inflammatory. Dilute it 1 part honey, 2 parts warm [ not hot ] water. That thins it enough to be used with either a Q-tip or an eyedropper. Try that twice a day in each eye....hopefully it will help Edward some.

Hopefully the honey treatment AHBD suggested will help. My rescue dragon had a watery eye similar to what you describe and it turned out to be a blocked tear duct. Instead of the tears draining into his mouth they just built up in his eye. I wound up cleaning it with saline solution via a curved syringe and sometimes I'd just take a q-tip and spin it in front of his eye gently to absorb the excess tears. Not really a permanent solution but it may help him see a bit better.

Thank you for your suggestions all. His eyes look a lot better now after a couple days of bathing and rinsing with saline solution. Will do the honey thing if it flares up again. Only seems to actually weep during feeding. Otherwise fine.

Hello,

If you have any pictures of him, we would all love to see them!
I am glad to hear that his eyes are doing better after the saline & honey treatment. That is odd they only seem to weep during feeding. How much does he eat at a time?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
