Water in their home

Ok so I have a very beautiful dragon called Mick. She is 7 -got her as a bubba. I was always told never to put water in their terrarium as it causes humidity which they don’t like. Also most will not drink from still water as they they don’t recognise it as water. It must be running. Thoughts????

I don't have water dishes in my dragon tanks.

Used to when they were little but soon found the hatchlings were using the water dish as a toilet.

I dont have a water dish either in my tanks --- they never drank from them so it was taken out- I am bathing Hiccup once a week to see if he wants water - he will drink from the bath - Blaze is getting misted when shedding and getting moisture thru his greens his eating and the roaches that are gut loaded w/ carrots and dubia food --

To help get water misting the salad with water is a good trick to use.

I also have a dragon who does not drink water unless it is moving. I've only seen her drink in a bath, and that is only if I'm agitating the water with my hand so waves are made. Misting her greens are what I normally do to give her some water daily.

So, I do leave a water dish a few days a week just in case she is thirsty. The humidity never gets above 30%, my house is dry. Some houses and locations might have more humidity so take into account your house humidity if you plan to leave water available.

I put a small one in their vivs so they have it if interested. I dropper trained them to see the dish as a source of water, and I have seen both drink from them. The dishes are very shallow/small, so I don't see an aspiration/drowning risk and I live in an arid climate, so any humidity increase is negligible. That said, I mist their greens, assuming that they will primarily get their moisture needs from their greens & bugs.

Petey doesn't have a water dish. He does get warm soak each week. He will lick a drop or 2 off his snout/mouth from a dropper and his veggies are always rinsed immediately before eating. I'm sure he's getting what he needs.

well hydrated and gutloaded with fresh leafy greens insects will provide all the moisture a dragon needs.

In my experience it's hit or miss. I've had dragons that will drink from a water bowl in their tank. I've had more that ignore it though. However they can eventually figure out it is water to drink. It doesnt have to be running. Running would definitely raise the humidity.

That being said, I dont keep water bowls in anymore. Mainly for the mess they tend to create.

My dragons either drink in the bath or will drink water dripped on their noses.
