So what kind of things are ok to put in its tank.... do you have a picture of your set up you could post? I didnt realize something like a fuzzy blanket would be ok. Like I said this is all still really new to me

Your beardie is very cute :D

You can try things like shelf liner, tiles, newspaper, blankets, paper towel as a substrate. Any loose substrate like sand, wood chips or rocks can be swallowed and can cause impaction. Even if you only see a few grains, those grains may not be passed and remain undigested in their stomachs, and therein lies the issue because the grains build up into a clump.

Bearded dragons live in scrub-like locations in Australia, but they do venture out onto sand as well. That said, the standard lifespan of a wild bearded dragon is only 2-5 years. A captive bearded dragon can live up to 10 years. If you keep them exactly like they're in the wild, they'll have a much shorter life.

Of course, there are people who have housed on sand for years and had no issues. It all comes down to chance, and whether you want to take the chance. Personal choice, really :)

I used sand spence mine was a baby and I never had any problems, but I wondered the same thing so I asked the guys at the pet store and they told me about a special type of calcium sand and it was only like $13 and that's what I've used sence he was a baby and he has no problem and some people say to use a type of reptile carpet but then there poop gets stuck to it and stains the carpet and the sand u can just scoop it with a scoop

alot of pet stores really dont know exactly what is best for beardies , ( depending on the petsore but most do not have the exerience needed) i know that sand is much easier, i use shelf liner for mine. its safe, looks good.

Im not worried about having to clean it thats not an issue I just figured sand would be fine but after I get paid I will get some reptile carpet for Zagen's tank, and a house and possibly some other things. Now that I see all these things are ok Im excited to redecorate her tank! Thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it! Oh and I was wrong she is about 8 inches long... a little bigger then I thought!

I used newspaper then switched to an off white non adhesive shelf liner and so glad I did. It is so much easier to clean. I still want him to have some sand so he has an old butter container about an inch deep with sand in it and he sits in it often. Or you can use a deep water dish. :D

Me personally I would go with a slate tile or something like that, this is from personal experience as I had reptile carpet and it is a little harder to keep clean and you will have to replace it every so often, so going with a tile that is easy to clean and stays nice and never have to be bought again makes more sense to me at least, plus going with a slate tile helps keep the nails trimmed.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
