Yes I know that right now this does not affect many of you but realize that once this goes through other exotics will follow suit.

As forewarned by USARK, the US Fish & Wildlife Service has published a proposed Rule Change in the Federal Register to add 9 Large Constricting Snakes to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act.

Click here to read proposed Rule Change: http://www.fws.gov/verobeach/images/pdflibrary/Federal Register Notice (Public View Doc).pdf
USARK is analyzing the proposed Rule Change and will apprise the Reptile Nation of a course of action in short order. We are conducting a conference call with a coalition of industry interests to address this important issue. Immediately following that call we will be engaged in a call with the Small Business Administration, a government agency tasked with looking out for the interests of small business in the US.
The animals being targeted by proposed Rule Change are as follows:
(1) Python molurus (Indian [including Burmese] python).
(2) Broghammerus reticulatus or Python reticulatus (reticulated python).
(3) Python sebae (Northern African python).
(4) Python natalensis (Southern African python).
(5) Boa constrictor (boa constrictor).
(6) Eunectes notaeus (yellow anaconda).
(7) Eunectes deschauenseei (DeSchauensee's anaconda).
(8) Eunectes murinus (green anaconda).
(9) Eunectes beniensis (Beni anaconda)
This is NOT a time to panic or take rash action. We have expected this move for some time. Please await further instructions on how to proceed. When USARK does call for action please take it seriously and put forth your best professional effort to address this important issue. We have done the ground work and have put the Reptile Nation in a good place to successfully meet this challenge. It is imperative that all of our members conduct themselves in a calm professional manner. We have our work cut out for us but we are prepared address Rule Change.

I've talked to my senater and sent tons of letters. It seems non-snake don't care that much but I'm busting my bum for it

Everyone needs to contact their senator/congressman...it may start with snakes, but where will it end. Pretty soon the only thing we will be allowed to own is turtles...

I'm already not allowed to own turtles... they are native to TN, so you can't own them here. Poop. At least thats the way I understand the rules... but I still know people who own them. They are very quite about it, though.

its only turtles that are native to Tennessee that you are not allowed to own. Any turtles that are not native to Tennessee would not be covered under that.

wow! In someways i can see where they are coming from on this.:
I read of an account in Florida where people are buying these large constricting snakes and when they get too large they are releasing them. As a result Florida has jobs open for folks willing to go out and catch them, and as many of you know constrictors are large, from what i've read in the wild they can grow up to 20ft in legnth and can weigh over 200 lbs... imagine ... the main problem they are having in Florida are the Burmese Pythons... owners of those snakes have been releasing them, they even have one account of the snake taking down a gator!!!!! I do think they should of addressed this problem before now but thats neither here nor there...

now for the other reptiles:
I will be sending my sentator an email in regard to what i have read... I dont think all reptiles should be banned... I do however have a problem with large reptiles that people are allowed to buy at any ole pet store... not to mention i cant believe they are allowed to sell them... I dont have an issue with snakes, i just dont think we should be allowed to own snakes that can get that large in size and eat even the dog or the kids...
i understand that we need to fight for our rights to own reptiles but I am very much against folks being allowed to own that large of an animal....

Why dont they just ban the constrictors in florida, or require you have to go through a course/licesning process to own one...and then you have a database of who is owning snakes...problem solved. You drop your snake off in the woods and get caught...$25,000 fine...

thats what i'm saying, they could do something right?? I think that for everyone buying a large snake like that, that the state needs to be able to know who you are to make sure this stops happening... oh man, i could see me in florida, with a huge snake coming up to me... i would pass out and that sucker would be able to down me right there lol

THEY SHOULD NOT BAN LARGE SNAKES JUST CAUSE A DAMN ***** LET THEIRS GO, yes yellling and wild

proper care of thees animal and they are fine. also TRUST me dont beleive the media on these, see it for yourself, i have been in flordia and helped, also on the alligator losing to a burm, total bs, i heard it on the news, its the acount of what a local saw, well lots of people want snakes gone, so umm people DO LIE, alsoKatrina didn't help matter either, also if you have seen the monster quest about snakes, it complete BUlL####. If we cant stand together for all Herps, the we fall, so to me its all or nothing if Snakes get banned all reptiles should. no middle. as i stated in the "goldmine: post not to knock ya'll but most beardies owners are non-reptile people and just own bearides as they are so personalbe you forget they are wild animals as well, even captive bread. no middle once the HSUS gets a foot in the land slide will fall

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
