i have just gone threw a tramatic event. my little baby beardy percy will be put down tomarrow so to honor him i want to warn people about the danger i did not know about till today. i got percy from petco he was only 6 weeks old and now at 8 weeks he has been diagnosed with the adenovirus. my vet is sertain that he had it at birth because he had never been a good eater at most he would eat 7 a day. he only has a week left to live if i continue saportive care but i thought it best to end his suffering. i want to warn all of you of this potential danger for petco and petsmarts beardys if one of the adults from their breeder has this disease it is possible many will.

Im so sorry. I may be wrong here, but I thought adenovirus could only be accurately diagnosed in a bearded dragon through necropsy.

There is a swab test that they can do, and also another newer one, it's either blood or fecal. Luckily those are both live-beardie tests :)

And I'm so so sorry about Percy! :( It's never easy to have to make those types of decisions, regardless of how long someone has had their pet :(

I'm sorry to hear that you had to put Percy down. I actually got my first beardie from Petsmart and he's very healthy and a year and a half old. If you want more information about the adenovirus that affects bearded dragons, here's a link:

If you're looking to get another beardie in the future, you could look into some of the more well known breeders who have a history of producing healthy animals. I'm sorry that you had to go through this whole experience and you did the best for Percy that you could.

Edit: I know that Petco has a return policy for unhealthy pets. If you take them the vet report, you could possibly get your money back for poor Percy.

Yes, and PetSmart has this too. Mustashio is a PetSmart baby and he was VERY ill within the first two weeks I had him home. $150 vet bill, had to syringe feed him, was loaded with parasites and was calcium deficient because they didn't have a UVB on him. Vet gave him a 50/50 chance of pulling through, but we did it! Now he is almost a year old and is thriving! And PetSmart paid the entire $150 bill too!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
