It is actually best to mount the UVB inside the tank. When the uvb is outside on the lid, the lid stops some of the rays. Also your beardie should be able to get 6-8 inches away from the uvb. You can mount the uvb inside the tank by buying a under the counter wall mount and then getting command strips. The command strips will hold the fixture in place on the back of the glass wall. The UVB should be replaced every 6 months. It should be on for 12 hours.

I have heard of that but actually I have read (and it says on the boxes of such bulbs) that it SHOULD be above the lid so half of the rays ARE absorbed. I don't know details or why it is better but that is what I have heard. Anyway, I found both the bulb and hood from someone on a very nice price so I will do it this way. It is 24"
