wish I had time to read all/any of these responses

personally I hear the same flotsam over and over on these forums

you are over doing the soaking sessions and incessantly drowning your desert adapted arid evolved lizards
all while putting them at risk of many ill effects

heed the words of caution

I'm sorry but you sound like the guy at petco who says having them on anything but sand will kill them too  I trust a HERP vet and I run EVERYTHING I read on here past her.

My herp vet told me to use panacur and de-worm all my dragons with it.

I have never done this and dont plan to either. Im sure it was great advise for the normal person who wants to poison totally healthy animals though.

KEEP SOAKING THEM THEN FOLKS ITS GREAT FOR THEM do it all day, every day!

When you have coughing wheezing dragons with mucus come out of their mouths and they get respiratory infections then dont whine and cry about it.

Im done going round and round. I listen to plenty of advise. But I know when I am correct on something and when dragons are being put at risk for NO reason.

You think it rains every other day in the Australian outback? Do you think they run into puddles and soak for 15-20 minutes every day? Ever been to to an arid environment? It monsoons there about once a month sometimes less. Go look it up. :study:

As for who is right or wrong... it's not my concern... I care about your dragons receiving ill treatment being incessantly soaked. *the potential for them to get sick is increased 10-fold by overly soaking the arid adapted animal*

I rest my case... do as you wish.

Dont keep your dragons on sand by the way. I never said to use sand like petco.

sand gives them respiratory issues from the silt, it also gets into their eyes... as well, there is a potential for it to become impacted in their small intestinal tracts

overly soaking the dragons is: newby mistake NUMERO UNO

but keep doing it until you get them sick and then you'll learn like I did... from experience

I never said you said use sand I said you sounded like people who say use this or they will die, don't use this cause they will die. Believe what you want. If you never worm your dragons I wonder how healthy they really are ? I new a guy bred cornsnakes 15 years by cohabbing his pairs said it was the ONLY way to do it and everyone else was wrong just like you are doing about the water. Ya know what I told him? BLAH BLAH BLAH. I am done with this thread. There is nothing wrong with bathing your beardie if its done right. NO ONE here bathes them ALL DAY EVERY DAY like you are saying. Mojo's baths never last more than 20 minutes. Would take a LOT more than that to kill her or make her sick.

The definition of incessantly is continuing or following without interruption. 20 minutes a day is NOT incessantly.

I actually have my own microscope and do my own fecal exams. I do fecal floats and test the animals and keep records on all of my animals. The concept of dosing each animal with poison which kills off their natural gut flora and weakens their immune systems and causes undue stress for no reason I dont do sorry.

I feed everything from paper plates and use rubbing alcohol/diluted bleach solution for wipedowns etc. I breed my own roaches and grow my own food for them outdoors. Hibiscus and assorted greens. I also have an outdoor setup where they are taken once or sometimes twice a week to bask.

If your dragon is in water for 15-20 minutes every other day sweetheart, you're putting it at risk of respiratory infections.

If your worried about soaking put a big bowl of water in the enclosure and let it soak itself. The water will heat to the ambient temperature.

When you have kept and had well over a 100 plus dragons over 8 years of keeping them... then let me know how the cool water 20 min soaks every other day... works out for you. You will see a very large increase in colds/coughs/and respiratory issues.

But dont listen or heed the warning. Do as you wish. The girl in this post has a dragon I bred myself. If she wants the breeders advice that is what I gave to her. If you wish to follow other advise then go for it.

If you are taking the animal from a warm body temp in their enclosure of say 95 degrees... when you drop it into a cool bath and let it soak you are causing temperature shock. When you let them sit for several minutes in the water to "soak" you are cooling their body temps down to the 70's then typically they are put back into the enclosure where the temp is extremely hot again. Big not needed temp fluctuations.

Keep doing this day after day, and you will see the dragon get sick. coughing and wheezing is the sign of a person incessantly soaking the dragon

I apologize for sounding crass. I just hear the same thing over and over on these forums and it is WRONG. sorry to say, but it is

Here are some examples of my sickly animals:

After 2-3 fecal exams and finding no internal parasites... I dont treat them ALL with panacur and medication. No, I dont do that sorry.

Although my herp vet recommended me to do that. Like the panacur was some miracle elixir or something. lol

enjoy

Can you please explain how soaking my dragon in 95 degree water drops his temp down in the 70s? I think that is your problem. You put them in water too cold, they got sick and now your water shy because of it.

we are not to put them in COLD water at all. It is supposed to be close to 95 degrees or at least lukewarm to mildly warm. Your experience may be one of many and I only do what the breeder I know says is acceptable and after 3 yrs neither dragon has yet to get a respiratory infection.

Okay I wont post anymore on this thread after this one but to each his own. Just because your way works doesnt necessarily mean it is the ONLY RIGHT way. Enough said. I respect that you don't. I do mine maybe 2x/week. The breeder I know has been breeding for several years as well. To each his own.
And how do you explain RI's to those who get it and DONT bathe their dragons?

This thread has gotten out of hand. There are nice ways to post without getting rude and disrespectful. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and there isn't only ONE way to do things. Members got defensive (and rightly so) when words like riff-raff, "flotsam", and "regurgitate" were used regarding the info on this forum. I am unlocking this thread but please keep in mind about the Rude Behavior policy on this forum.

As a member, I wanted to add that some beardies only poop in their baths and will hold out until that occurs. Also, babies can get dehydrated very quickly and I don't feel it's safe to have a water dish in with a baby beardie due to the drowning possibility. If an owner isn't using a reliable thermometer like an infrared temp gun or digital with probe, the temps could be too high which can contribute to dehydration very quickly. So, there are some other issues to keep in mind regarding bathing frequency. I'm not an expert, but have had beardies myself for many years and have experienced and heard of some instances where a bath once a wk or every other wk doesn't suffice.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
