My critique:

You are bathing him too much... for too long a period of time. (every other day... 15-20 mins)

Do not let them soak in water for extended periods of time.

This is putting him at risk of upper respiratory infections. He should be bathed no more than once a week. Preferably ever other week. Very warm water using a soft bristled tooth brush. Dont give him a bath if he doesnt need one. Quickly scrub him down and wash him in the warm warm water. No soap. As soon as he come out of the water wrap him in a paper towel to dry him throughly and then quickly return him to the warm side of the enclosure directly under his light.

upper respiratory infections from temperature shock require vet assistance and are often fatal

didn't know that :S thx for the tip, i'll bathe him once a week or once every other week then (15-20 min?) the water doesn't go above his shoulders, and i make sure water doesn't get in his ears.

From what I have read around the forums, many members bathe their dragons daily or every other day. This is the first I am hearing of once a week?

I can pull up several threads saying daily or once every other day if needed. I have never seen anywhere about the upper respiratory infection. That comes from prolonged periods of increased humidity and to my knowledge not from bathing.

Also, that is one smoking hot little baby!

Bathing should be a 2-3x/week not once a week. The RI are usually because of too much humidity in ones cage. other than that everything looks great --including your dragon

Ok put your dragons at risk. Excessively bathe them like they are little puppy dogs... every other day.

This dragon is one "I myself" bred and hatched out of an egg. It is an offspring from Raz.

Trust me... once a week is more than enough. Once every other week... even better.

You are risking giving the dragon temp shock, and giving it a respiratory infection. Ever have a dragon get sick from being wet? I have had several and learned the hard way.

But do as you wish... soak them every day, or every other day. Subject them unnecessarily to potential hazard for no reason.

Unless they need a bath or if they are dehydrated there is no need to bathe them incessantly. They are not water dragons.

cracks me up... Im talking from years of experience keeping and breeding them... not from what riff-raff info there is circulating the net.

thanks

Do yourself a favor and dont soak the dragon every other day. You're are putting him at risk of contracting a respiratory infection... and at minimum a cold with mucus. Trust me on this one from years of experience. Some of these so called forum experts regurgitate the same info over and over and go off of what they hear on the forums.

Im speaking from experience. Do not over bathe the dragon. Chances are likely that you will get him sick. Please dont do this to him. Follow my advise in the first response I made.

Very warm water, soft bristled tooth brush scrub on underbelly. In and out quickly. As soon as he comes out, he goes right into a paper towel to thoroughly dry, and then right back into the heated viv under the light.

I take special care of my dragons.

Here is a pic of a sibbling (brother of your male):

I'm teaching you an expert way to bathe your dragon... or you can follow flim-flam forum advise.

choice is yours

yes they also get plenty of moisture from the insects

their skin is not permeable they dont absorb water through the skin

when you bathe him once a week he may drink if he's dehydrated slightly... I doubt he will try to drink much if he is eating like a little piggy

you cant overfeed him either

they will eat until full then stop once they are fully gorged

I know you had mentioned your friend said you were overfeeding.

Also: yes calci-sand is horrible for dragons it easily becomes impacted and clumps internally

clean play sand is ok... but still makes silt and is bad for their respiratory systems as well as their eyes

newspaper is your best bet or no substrate at all... using regular cleanups with rubbing alcohol and paper towels

also your friends dragon needs UVB to properly absorb calcium and for appetite stimulation
Nearly all diurnal (daytime active) reptiles require exposure to ultra-violet B (UVB) rays in order to synthesize vitamin D3 and in turn, metabolize calcium.

taking the dragon outside occasionally is not a good substitute for uvb lighting

hope this helps

he is looking awesome... keep up the good work

keep me posted down the road on how he is doing

"Riff-raff info" typically tends to come from other people who have "years of experience keeping and breeding them." You can have your opinion and respect other people's as well. Everything read online should be taken with a grain of salt, and best judgement should be used. I bathed my dragon every other day when he was a baby, and now twice a week that he's getting older. It works for me, like your method works for you.

Wow that is one of the most fire and brimstone tactic posts I have ever seen. Let me first say that while I do not attest to being a seasoned owner of bearded dragons, just because you have had 'years of experience keeping and breeding' that does not necessarily mean that your doing it perfectly by any means. While it is always helpful to express your personal experience to help others who are just starting out trying to scare someone into listening to you isn't right. As Randommonks said, everyone has their own opinion and trying to scare someone into your way of thinking, while effective in this instance, isn't going to help them. Just saying :dontknow:

And just for poops and giggles:
Ways to successfully keep bearded
dragons from becoming dehydrated
while eliminating the need for water
in the enclosure include: providing a
shallow pan for soaking 1-2 times
weekly
as needed
Taken from a scientific journal in regards to the care of bearded dragons. For citing information the link is :http://www.ivis.org/journals/exoticdvm/8-5/Johnson.pdf with the information being found on page 40 under 'water'.

Please take my post with a grain of salt but remember while there are plenty of 'riff-raff' opinions online, not all opinions offline are wrong and yours is never the only correct way of thinking.

Sounds about right, just don't mist him ever, especially in the enclosure. ;) Baths are enough.

I do agree that you need to respect others opinions too. I bathe mine every few days but I did not get my info from online I got it from a very reputable breeder. according to the info I was given, You do need to bathe them 1x week minimum to keep them from getting dehyrdated though 2 times a week is also okay.
My beardie is almost 3 yrs old and one thing he has NOT had is a Respiratory Infection. I understand you feel your way from experience as well but it is better to kindly tell someone your opinion not scare them into your way of things (which may be right for you )

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
