Waking from Brumation

Hi everyone!

So I posted a bunch of times in a panic back in November about my 9mo male going off food and getting lazy. After being reassured by all of you (and finally, his breeder!]) that he was going into early brumation due to an early growth spurt, I kind of let him be. He was in and out. kind of a "partial" brumation, the entire time. He would be awake, peeking out from his hide, changing position and occasionally eating a few bites here & there, but basically wanted to sleep and be lazy. That is, until last weekend.

Out of the blue little Brock climbed up to his basking rock one morning - you should have seen my boyfriend and I cheering and cooing at this little lizard. It was almost absurd. lol. We just missed him so much! So we let him be for about 48 hours, only offering food in case he wanted it, not taking him out in case he was cranky. He was up only a few hours for the first couple of days, but now has been consistently waking early and staying up late. His "male" behaviors have become almost extreme.. he paces, black-beards, poofs, & head-bobs until I feel like he's going to break his little neck. From what I understand, that's all normal.

As far as feeding, he seems to be completely sidetracked with looking for girls. He will eat, if it is either really junky food (i.e. mealies.. ew.) or hand-fed to him - & that only works for a few bites. I've ordered a batch of butterworms (his favorite) which should arrive tomorrow, and have gotten him to eat some salad by hand, but he is being curiously picky about his greens! Prior to brumation he would eat anything green with gusto. Since waking, I've tempted him into a couple bites of collards, a bit of kale, some celery leaves, and (weirdly?) a couple of basil leaves. He used to be crazy about those "bearded dragon bites" but is showing no interest in them, either. I am going to dice some cactus today, another of his favorites, to see if it interests him.

At any rate - how long should I expect him to be a pest about what he wants to eat? Is it a hormonal thing, for them to change eating habits after the first brumation? Will his crazed hunting for ladies tone down a bit soon? I'm just finding it so odd that he is turning down things he would have DEVOURED back in the fall. And not only that, he doesn't seem to be eating much of anything, even the junky food. Is his appetite likely to return slowly?

Worried mom. You all understand. :)

Thanks in advance!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
