a question for those with foux grouted rock- supposing it is defecated upon, how easy/difficult is it to clean? sealed with say, mod podge, or polycrylic? (which i have tried on plaster and peels...so i doubt its optimal but I've heard of it being used.) i wish to construct a fairly realistic rock cave type piece, originally because i wanted something to the effect of zilla's pink/orange rock den without spending 30 dollars on the jumbo size.

I like using Shellac...it's organic, non toxic and seals great. After about 2-3 coats (don't put on terribly thick or it bubbles) it's super easy to clean.

What a great looking viv! I'd love to know what the ledges are made of, this is a project I'm going to try after I move and am settled, the last pic of peek a boo, is precious as well. Thanks for sharing!

The ledges are made of polystyrene, grout, etc. using the instructions on making a fake rock wall from this site. If I had to do it over, I would have designed the thing differently. I was so focused on stability rather than the fact that I'd have to grout and seal the whole thing, that was quite a process with my ungainly design. Plus I'm lucky Smaug always poops in the same spot (on the tile), it would be a pain to clean if he went in one of the hides!

Anyway, invaluable info on this site helped us build the whole thing, as well as great inspiration from all the pics in this thread!

This is an awesome thread. We are looking after our son's beardie and his viv is pretty blah. Slate bottom a hammock and a rock. I wanted to put some other items to encourage him to move around more but didn't know where to start or whether Miller would actually climb on it. I am going to use several ideas from the viv's pictured in this thread.

If I make the changes, do you think Miller will need an adjustment time?

this is the only pic i took of my tank.... i hate it cause my beardie's in a regular fish aquarium and feeding him is not the easiest . when summer comes, i'm gonna build a new one . if you look really good, my beardie is in the right side of the tank, on the brown dinosaurs tail.
