I've been in the process of revamping Hige's viv - been giving him things like a hammock in place of a smaller platform he was too big for, arcadia tube UVB instead of a compact bulb, adding a live plant or two that i've grown, switching round the bulb positions so he has a properly designated basking spot, adding a night-time CHE and putting in a digging box. After Christmas,
(when there is likely to be an abundance of polystyrene) i want to make it more natural seeming - putting in rock effect walls, textured flooring and basking platforms. I'm also gonna put in some better ventilation. I'm ideally gonna make them separate from the viv furniture so they just slide onto my existing platform, floor and walls. That way i can just remove them as and when they need cleaning or if he needs to go into quarantine - ie. for parasite treatments.

I saw a really cool looking one on an old tutor had designed where they had the usual 4ft viv set up with basking spots, UVB, cool ends and so on, but then there was a beardie sized hole in the front centre of the floor with ramp leading down to a smaller inbuilt section that was heated to around 85F with a CHE and no lights that they called their 'Beardie Cave'. When their BD was shedding they'd temporarily make it slightly warmer, more humid and put water bowls in there so it could choose to go down and help get off the skin. When it was showing signs of brumnating they put pieces of kitchen roll in, cover over the glass front to make it dark, and their BD would 'dig down' to brumnate. When it was laying eggs it was filled with a soil/sand type substrate that it chose to go down to and dig a hole to lay the eggs in whenever she felt ready. The rest of the time it was just used as a mid-range temperature place it'd go to escape the lights/heat every so often. It looked quite complicated to build, and looking back probably wasn't always ideal but their BD seemed to enjoy it, slept down there every night and treated it almost like a burrow. I reckon that'd be quite cool to make as a project!
