Vitticeps or Henrylawsoni????

I got my bearded dragon, Spike, I wanna say, about a year ago. We bought him from a pet store in the mall, and he was a "baby". I can't remember, for the life of me, how old the lady said he was when we got him, but now I'd really like to know.

And here's my biggest question.... IS HE A VITTICEPS OR A HENRYLAWSONI??? :shock:

He's about 9 inches from head to tail and about an inch and a half wide.
Now there's a reason he's only 9 inches.
He got his tail smushed under a large ornament in his tank one day, and his tail died from that point down to the tip, and he ended up getting a little tail rot, and most of it fell off. We got it all taken care of, and it's healed up now, and it looks fine, but that's the reason he's only 9 inches from head to tail. If I could make an accurate guess, I'd assume, with his full tail, he would be 10 to 11 inches long.

Is this the right length and width for a Vitticeps at a little over a year and a half of age?
Or is this an example of how large a Henrylawsoni would be at his age?

He's got a UVA and UVB lamp. Now, I know that ReptiGLO isn't good for them, or has been proven to cause problems with beardies, but it's all I've had to work with until now, so I can go buy another bulb, if need be. But his basking temp stays at about 100 degrees F, and his cool region stays at about 87 degrees F most of the time. I have a wall thermometer, which sticks to the inside of his tank, and a hygrometer the same way to measure these things.

I feed him carrots, spinach leaves, and mustard greens mostly.
I feed him about 10 crickets once a week (I read that veggies are more important to feed than crickets ) and I fill his bowl with Fluker's freeze dried crickets and grasshoppers (I take the meal worms out) at the first of the week. All of these are powdered with calcium and vitamin D.
And he OCCASIONALLY gets pineapple and mandarin oranges as a treat.
IF I am feeding him wrong, not enough, or incorrect portions, let me know immediately. I love my Spikey, and I want him to grow up healthy. I'm only feeding him a mix of what I thought would be the best amount for his size.

I would just like to know if he's too small for his age to be considered Vitticeps, or if he's the perfect size to be Henrylawsoni. I don't mind either way, I love my Spike. But I desperately need these questions answered by people who really know what they're talking about, and really would know how to answer a question such as this.

Hi there ! Well, I can tell you that it's extremely unlikely that it's a Lawson's / Rankin's . That question comes up here pretty often. Pet stores don't carry them generally because they are much less common + more expensive, so unless a specialty store had some [ and they would be labeled as ] then you just have a small stunted vitticeps. Now it's true that adults need mostly veggies, but babies need tons of small prey items, generally anywhere from 25 [ low end ] to 75 or more per day to grow at a good rate. These meals are best broken up into 2 -3 feedings per day. So your beardie has already been raised on a minimal amount of feeders, no fault of yours , as you read it on a website, and I can tell that you are sincere, and that you love Spikey ! Try feeding him live crickets every day, 5-6 and then more as he gets used to the increased amount, you can also try dubia roaches, silkworms and hornworms. Medium superworms could be added to his diet, a few at a time, but beardies do become addicted to them + may refuse other insects once they get some of the supers. So, he will always be small, but he can grow a bit bigger in the next year, so just give him more of what he needs. I wish you well with Spikey !

to add no citrus fruits they are not good for them even in small amounts a great treat is some canned pumpkin they usually go crazy for that.post some pics.
