Vitacrickets

I thought I saw a post the other day about this but never got to read it. Are these good for bd's? These are what Petco have. And I want to make sure they are ok. If not I think I can get regular ones at The Ark. But that's even farther away. I'm always worried about them dying on the way home haha.

You mean vitabugs?
As far as I know they are fine. I'd call them a gourmet cricket, I guess. They were developed with pet nutrition in mind and are fed and cared for in a particular way. They are billed to be a more nutritious option to other commercially raised crickets based on the special rearing program that is used.
I'm not sure how much better they are than well cared for crickets, but regular pet store crickets right out of the bin are often in rough shape. Healthy feeders helps keep healthier animals who eat them :)

Yes the vitabugs! That's all my Petco carries. They don't have just "regular" crickets. I just wanted to make sure that they were fine since there are so many different options. Thanks :D

As mentioned above, they are gut-loaded crickets and that makes them 4-5 cents more than regular crickets. I refuse to pay that much for crickets and only bought crickets from Petsmart. I can gut-load them for less than 5 cents a cricket.

No more crickets for me, I completely switched to Dubias and raise my own. I will never go back to crickets.

Is it semi-easy to raise your own food? I've thought about it but don't want to do something that is overly complex. Still learning all the ins and outs of bd's as it is haha.

Some bugs are easier than others.

Roaches are one of the easiest things I've done in my life. I'm trying to start some superworms, and If I lived further south I'd try my hand at culturing BSFL.
Silksworms are a bit too much work for me at this point, I'll just buy them online. I wouldn't consider raising crickets unless my life depended on it.

As Baldwin said, it's pretty easy to gutload crickets. I think part of the vitabug pitch is that they have had the special high quality food all their lives, so they are just that much better. I'm not sure it's worth the extra money, but I too avoid crickets so it's not been a dilemma for me.

My girl is still very small. I'm not sure if I can find any roaches that small around here. I was going to get superworms today, but they were all dead at petco! No thanks. Sunburst likes the thrill of them moving haha. And with her shedding and growing she needs to eat!

If she is big enough for superworms (16"+ long) roaches won't be a problem. The baby roaches are itty bitty (1/4" or so), and suitable for even tiny dragons. There aren't any places outside of the reptile shows around me that sell them.

The superworms were small. She could eat the small ones of the pics you posted but not the big ones.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
