I have read about some people having problems with this light damaging eyes and other things. I am wondering how common his is, if its effecting all dragons, how to tell if I have bought one with a bulb that has been recalled. And in general is it safe to use he florescent uvb bulb in it or just heat lamp? Please give as many known details as possible. Appreciate it

Also wondering if its just a coincidence or could it be a negative side effect that within 6 hours of putting the dragon under the zilla combo dome he began shedding. He is only about 4 months old apx 8 inches nose to tail.

I really don't know anything about the combo fixtures. The problem with the uvb bulbs come from coil and compact size bulbs. If this is what you have in the fixture, then yes, it can cause some problems. We have seen it often enough on here (weekly) of problems with beardies from these bulbs. Many times after a uvb bulb change the dragons do much better.

Hope that helps. ;)

It could be coincidence that he shed after being put under the light, or could be a better heat temperature than he had before you got him. ;)

Yes the link that Jacoby left is the lamp I bought, i talked to zilla they said they did have a warning advisory but those bulbs were replaced that had a phosphorous problem and now they should be of no harm. It is a big circle tube for the uvb bulb. Is that bad? and what problems could it cause, or should i watch for? and i assume they only happen to some dragons?

I have this also for a small tank and a little beardie. He/she seems to be doing okay with it for the past two months. No eye issues and good growth.

The center one is easy - haven't had to replace the other. However the bulbs are not cheap!

And also if the store carries the light they carry the replacement bulbs or can order them in different wattages and such. So these are not the lamps people were having problems with damaging eyes? cause they are still a desert 50 bulb but villa said they are a new bulb that are safe.

I know there was a post not long ago on this subject and someone from zilla chimed in to help. Not sure if I can find it again, but I will look for it.

One of the only things I've heard is that the UVB bulb (the tube) stops producing UVB extremely quickly in relation to the regular long tubes; however, I cannot verify this information. I am only passing on what I heard, haha. So I am not sure if this is of any help at all, but hopefully someone can give you a more definite answer. Do you have an exotic vet close that knows a lot about beardies? Maybe you can shoot them a phone call and they could give you some good info?
