hello fellow beardie owners, i'm slightly concered about my little girl falcor.
here's what everyone wants/needs to know:
female bearded dragon
10 months to a year old, i don't know her exact age.
19 inches in length, 488 grams
4x2x2 cage
100 watt megaray self-ballasted bulb, 15 inches away from her basking spot.
basking spot/hot area = 95-102 degrees F
cool side 75-80 F
humidity level 20-35%
substrate = green deck carpet, really no substrate.
i have a digital probe thermometer-hygrometer on the hot side, another digital thermometer on the cool side.
nightime temps range from 63-71 degrees F
hopefully i didnt forget anything.
falcor has not been acting herself lately. i've been following a few threads here about similar issues and beardies not acting themselves due to spring fever.
1- she's not eating any roaches, she only on occasion eats some strawberries, raspberries & veggies.
2- she LOVES roaches, and just looks at me like im crazy now when i feed them to her.
3- she hasn't pooed. i lied, she has, but its been tiny, not even the size of a dime. i don't consider this a 'real' poo!!!!
4- she constantly wants out of her cage, thrashes everything in her cage, its a total mess now!!!
5- the last time she 'fully' pooed (about 4 days ago) it was a bit runny, and there were undigested roaches/food matter.
i got really nervous and scheduled an appointment with a reptile vet, that was really far away from me.
i told her everything that was going on, every thing above that you all know now!
because she hasnt pooed lately, i couldnt bring in a sample, i was upset there, i can't get anything out of falcor, even with baths, massages, etc. so, worried that she could have eggs, or be impacted for whatever reason, (which shouldnt and wasnt the case). the vet examined falcor, couldnt really feel any blockage or eggs in her belly, so we took an x-ray. xray showed she has some very small possible follicles, which i'll have to keep a look out for in the future.
here's where i dont know what to think...vet said her lungs werent the size she'd like them to be in the x-ray, her lungs looked small to the vet. vet said she has a respiratory infection. i'm confused cause her cage has everything up to par, and the humidity is fine, at least thats what i thought? vet issued baytril. falcor takes a dose of baytril everyday for 4 weeks.
i guess i'm looking for the beardie experts here, does this sound ok, correct? i'm just really worried, i love this little beardie, she is my absolute buddy, and dont want anything to happen to her. am i doing the right thing here? i told the vet as soon as falcor has a movement, i am JETTING it down to her.
i just need some reassurance, guidance & help. i'm tyring so hard here!!! am i over-worrying? does falcor really have a respiratory infection, what the vet said, does this sound correct? i've spent quite a bit of money, time & gas, which doesnt bother me, but what does bother me is if the vet is making falcor take baytril for nothing? ugh...im stressing and so confused...
