Oh wow. Yeah I think if some vet said that to me, I wouldn't have kept my mouth shut. lol

Anyway, good luck with the appointment next week and let us know if it goes better for you! I completely understand being paranoid. I was the same way with Hermes when he started shutting down on me; not eating, not basking, acting super lethargic... I thought he was dieing or something. Took him to the vet, crammed his mouth with all manner of unnecessary medication... nothing worked. I was at a loss so I just decided to let him do what he wanted: sleep.

Now he's up and all crabby hormonal and head bobbing everything, ensuring that every inanimate object in my office knows he's the boss.

How big was Izzy, body width wise? If 7.5" included his tail, I'd say he was approximately 2 months old.
He's too young to be brumating, as beardies younger than 1 year old typically don't go exhibit signs of brumation, but that doesn't mean that yours couldn't.

Does this hospital have a website where you can check on the vets' qualifications or even patient testimonials?

I didn't measure his width when I brought him home so idk his width at that time.. I just measured his width at 4" but he just woke up and is pancaked under his basking light so that's not his normal width, lol.. I will check it tonight when I get home from work.. The new vet does have a website, with the vets info listed where as this other vet did not.. There are testimonials from patients but no testimonials from reptile owners.. I'm still looking though, I am on a mission to find the best vet I can find for my Beardie..

I'm not one to usually keep my mouth shut, I was honestly in shock standing there listening to him.. He wanted me to bring a fecal in but I'm not going back there.. Now that I've had time to process what I was told I'm tempted to stop in, I drive by there often..

I have to give a shout out to my hubby, he's been so supportive through my paranoidness, lol.. I'm so paranoid when it comes to ALL of my babies.. More so with Iz cause it's all new to me..

Thanks again for everyone's info and thoughts!

Was he about the same size as your finger? When I got Pookie, he was over 7 inches long (including tail) but was about as wide as my index finger (and I have really skinny fingers). I over-estimated him to be about 2 months old, but now I believe he was only about 1 month old.

Honestly, I think you should go back to that vet hospital and simply tell him that you didn't appreciate him telling you that reptiles are not meant to be pets, that if he felt this way, he, along with the other vets in that practice, should not care for any reptiles. It'd only be fair to their customers.

:love5: Awww! What a teeny tiny baby Izzy! That was about the same size as Pookie.
I'd say Izzy was about 1.5 months old at the time you got him.

So I took Izzy to HER new vet today and it was absolutely by far way better than the first vet.. They actually told me most of what I have learned here.. There were a few things that made me think but in all it was an awesome experience this time around.. Izzy does have a touch of RI so we have antibiotics for that, in the form of a shot  .. No worms or parasites but he found what he called "rods" in HER poo and we have some oral meds for that.. He also suggested I get a CHE to keep on all the time and keep the tank at 80-85 at all times and his basking at about 85-95, def going with the 95 for the basking spot.. He took the time to listen to me and answer all my questions.. His staff was awesome, the vet tech picked Izzy right up and just did her thing.. It may be a 40 min drive but it's def worth it and I will be going back.. I have a follow up in two weeks.. Thanks again for all the info :D

Okay so I took Izzy to the vet today for a checkup since his appetite has decreased a bit this past week, still eating just not as much.. I'm not sure how to take the info this guy gave me.. Pretty much everything I learned on here I was told to do the opposite!!! I was Bearded Dragons do not need a basking light and the temp in the tank should be one temp at about 80-85f.. I was told to get this even temp to get an under the tank heater.. I was told to take out the tile in my tank and not use tile but only newspaper.. I was told not to feed daily and minimal greens as Beardeds don't eat much vegitation.. I am seriously frustrated right now.. I trust what I have learned from this site.. I am on the hunt for another vet for Izzy I will not go back to this guy!!! He didn't seem like a reptile fan, said all reptiles are mean and are meant to be mean and when they are as docile as Izzy it wasn't a good sign, that they are at that point just hanging on!!! :angry5:
It's almost like he was setting you and your little one up for failure! After all, he hates reptiles so obviously doesn't care about how to care for them either! :banghead:

What were the "rods"???? Dead parasites??

I'm really not sure.. I took in so much info this evening from Dr. Brauer that the "rods" part didn't stick but he did tell me to call anytime and they would answer any of my questions.. I was just happy to hear no worms or parasites or cocchidia were found.. I will find out more about the "rods" when we go back..

Hurray! Glad to hear the new vet worked out! lol At least Izzy still sounds like a good girl name. ;) I'm sure she'll feel better in a week after her antibiotics.

It worked out well.. As for the name, I blurted out Izzy and hubby says yeah "Is he a boy or is he a girl?" He thought it was clever, "is he" turned to Izzy, lol.. I can't wait til she is better, I miss her running around her cage, hubby says she's still active during the morning hours..

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
