Vet check ups - are they necessary as with other pets?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if regular vet checkups are needed when you have a beardie?
My dogs go to the vet for preventive care as well as vaccines and medications... but my fish have never seen a vet in their entire life.
What's recommended with lizards? Are regular checkups needed?

Thanks!

I recommend it every 6-12 months. It helps you to establish a relationship with your vet and get a feel for how well they know reptiles. It's important to be comfortable with your vet's advice. It's also good to get some baseline stats in their record so if something does start to go wrong down the line it's easier to detect and you aren't starting from zero. If the budget is tight I would prioritize high quality lighting first but I do highly recommend regular vet visits if you can.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
