Hi guys,

I purchased my beardie nearly 3 weeks ago and everything is going great! She has settled down in her new home and sleeping very well and very active during the day. I have not got a UVB light just yet, i am waiting till it's time to upgrade her vivarium which wont be long, so until then i am supplying her with one drop of solar drops every Friday evening feeding (Solar drops on Locusts, mmmmm! YUMMY!)
My only problem is that she will not eat any veg no matter how hard or patient i am with her. She is now 5/6 months old but will not eat her Veg.
I have tried rolling it in my fingers while she is in the tank (make it look like live food) i've put it of a piece of string in her tank and i've tried hand feeding her all before i end up having to give her her live food.
I did try for 3 days barely giving her live food and only veg so she had now choice in eating something to feed her, but you guessed it.... Nothing! I couldn't let her starve so i started feeding her her medium sized mealworms and several Locusts.
have you guys got anymore ideas?

Also she doesn't lick the water when dropped on her head from my finger or in the sink (bathing, since she is shedding at the moment).

Hope you can help....

Many Thanks,

Phil

the solar drops arent very good for beardies..
and the veggies not a big problem. at her age the main concentration is insects.

In terms of water, just bathe her every day or every other day (depending on how hot and dry it is where you live) and she will become hydrated.

shadi11 already mentioned that at her age she doesnt eat greens much :) just leave them in there and she'll start eating them when she's ready.

Mealworms aren't a good staple feeder. They hardly have any nutritional value and their shells are harder than most other live feeders.. which can lead to impaction in beardies.

What exactly... is a solar drop anyway? I've never heard of it.

Solar drops are a pure Vitamine D3 supliment to use on your beardie instead of using UVB. Because of it being a pure vitiman extraction you only feed one drop the same day of every week. You place one drop on an insect of yours or your beardies choice and make sure that it is ate. That then supplys your beardie the natural Vitiman D3 that he or she needs.

When you say mealworms have no nutritional value to a beardie what when you gut load them with Veg and other things, wouldn't they then??

they have nutritional value but not a good nutritional value.. they are high in fat and the shell can cause impaction

I don't have a beardie yet but my friend does. Here's how he gets him to eat veggies.

Takes a small plastic bowl and adds finely chopped kale.

Puts small crickets it with the kale.

Beardie goes to eat the crickets and grabs some kale along w/ it.

He says eventually his dragon will just end up eating the kale on its own

our beardie likes his calci powder on the vegies she seems to eat no more than a few mouthfuls but he is still very young about 4 months he also gets his greens with his silk worms as they tend to stick themselves to the vegies. we also use our magic bullet blender to chop the vegies

my beardie wouldn't eat any veg watsoever however hard i tried until very recently. she is about 3 months old, and would only eat live prey until 2-3 weeks ago, so no worries

butter squash, cucumber and lettuce mixed together does the trick for larry and a weekly box of hoppers..hes not so keen on the crickets though..he makes them last and at nite the bloody things never shut up..sounds like were in the amazon or on a greek island..lol

dot is too small for the chirping crickets, but the pet store gave us the large ones when we asked for small ones! she will eat them, but they chirp @ nite too, and it drives me crazy!!!

the garage would be a perfect place to keep them @ nite, but unfortunatly, our garage gets colder that our refriderator @ nite, so they would probably die. (which doesn't sound like a bad idea at 2 in the morning)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
