UVB

im getting a new tank for my beardie tomorrow, and it comes with a uvb in it. but i already have a uvb (not sure what kind it is, it's NOT a coil and it's not the long one that goes in the tank like a lot of people have) and i really don't know what to do with it. saving it is probably good but dont bulbs go bad after awhile? idk. anyways, my question was is it okay to use 2 uvbs at once? this is my first beardie so idk.

Do you know the light that is coming with the beardies tank? And is it new or previously owned? If so I would keep the light because the other one has an unknown number of hours used already.

it's a brand new tank im buying from the store. the uvb is a reptisun 10.0 compact uvb fluorescent bulb.

Ok, it's really up your thoughts. That light you have now may die out before needing to use it again so you could either sell it somewhere or put it up on the selling or free giveaway forum here. I'm sure someone could benefit from it

The ReptiSun 10 compact isn't all that useful. What are the dimensions of the new tank? Which model of bulb do you currently have?

tbh im not sure at all what uvb im using now, i've had it for months now and i threw away the box. i know it's not the one that the new tank is coming with. i know for a fact i researched and it was a good bulb i just can't figure out the name of it. but the new tank is 40 gal, not sure of the demensions.

i miss really thinking of just buying the long tube uvb thing. i just don't know how to install it

You might do well by just picking up a brand new UVB setup and using that going forward. A good T5 can last a year or more and you can set it right on top of the tank. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/22-t-5-ho-fixture-high-output-with-arcadia-d3-12-ho-bulb/
