He's a cute little guy.
Actually, it is too close. It should be 6 to 8" from him. Can you put it on the top of the screen and right behind the basking light instead? Are you using a bright white basking bulb? What is the wattage of the heat bulb and what are the basking & cool side temps? Are you using either a temp gun or digital with long wire & probe end? It's very hard to get the temps right in such a small tank.
Okay so it is too close to him. Okay yeah because he's been closing his one eye way too much and for no apparent reason so, I figured that. What if I got a 5.0 uvb instead? right now and the fixture is rigged in there pretty well and i'd hate to take the full amount of uvb away from him, cutting it in half by putting it over the screen.
Right now, he has a zoomed blue daylight 100watts, but i have it on a dimmer so it stays at probably like a 75watt temp all the time, it's between 100 and 104 so I dont think that's too warm for him. On the cool side it's between 80 and 83. is that too high, do you think? Lol, I havent had a baby like this in a while. Scarlet's ginormous compared to him.
Also, the first day we brought him home he ate like a champ. pw's, dubia's, carrots.. Now, he doesnt want to eat anything really. he'll take like 2 or 3 and go back and bask. So today for lunch i gave him a baby, baby super worm and he ate it. I threw 2 more baby supers in there and he didnt want anything to do with them. Could the uvb being too close to him effect his eating?
Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
Here's a quick pic of them together.
Scarlet aand Mario hehe. They're so cute!!
