Hello everyone, i just wanted to clarify something, i have been having issues for a while, trying to get Gizmos basking spot 6-8" away from the UVB tube, but still have the right temps, With a 24" high cage she basically would have to be near the ceiling, which seems too close to the bulb for me!

Anyway, i was surfing the viv only thread, and many of the pics show a uvb that is on the ceiling, and very low basking spots (I.E more that 6-8" away)

Im running out of ideas with this? any help? I dont want o get an MVB as i have only just replced my arcadia tube!

No i dont, its a crossfire enclosure (48x18x24") that i built earlier in the year. She has a 36" arcadia 12% UVB stretching the lenght of the cage, and on the right hand side, she has a hosehold flood as a basking spot, right next to the UVB bulb. The bottom of the bulb is level to the UVB bulb, but i dont like the idea of her getting within 6 inches of the hot bulb.

I suppose her basking spot dosnt have to be directly under the bulb right? As long as its the right temps?? Im popping to the pet store today to pick up some more cork bark and im gonna try and make a platform for her.

When i use a 60W bulb, her basking spot has to be near to the floor which means it has to be 18" from the UVB which is no good, but she seems happier and active, but a 40W she has to be really high, she is ok if i put her there, but seem dubious to get that high, maybe a nice platform with a little ramp would be more appealing?

Sorry to babble ive just tried everything with the bits of wood etc that i already have!

Yeah, in my experience, they're not all that clumsy so as long as your dragon can comfortably and safely get up there, turn around and get down, a higher basking spot shouldn't be a problem.

OK so after some DIY and a few pieces of reptile carpet - this is what i have, a nice 6" from the bulb and a 105 basking spot! Yay!

Buggsy, i am totally green eyeing your enclosure!! It is soooo beautiful! How is your UV mounted? I'm looking to get Rex a new light, but i need a whole new casing too. I have a feeling i'm going to have a hard time finding something that spans the entire length of his tank. If i could mount it...it would be much nicer. If you have other pics, that would rock!

Thank you!

Lol thank you! Its just mounted on the side at the top its a 36" tube in a 4ft cage. I made the cage earlier in the year, it was quite easy!

here are some whole tank shots for you, excuse the grumpy girly as its lights out!

and here are the lights, on the right hand side is a ceramic heat emmiter for the cold winter nights, a plain household bulb for a basking spot, and a 36" arcadia 12% UVB tube.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
