So I got in the mail today from petmountain a reptisun terrarium hood with a 10.0 bulb. However upon hooking it up it does not appear to turn on. I insert the 10.0 bulb and turn it a quarter clockwise. Turn it on and nothing happens. I called petmountain and asked for my money back. This was my first time ordering from them and it was not a good initial impression. But before I go off bad mouthing petmountain for sending me defective product the bulb is suppose to emit a visible light correct?

Yes, there is visible light. I am not sure how technically inclined you are, so don't be insulted by any questions or comments that I make.

1. It is plugged in, right?
2. Are you positive both pins on each end are making contact with the metal contacts on the fixture?
3. If you have a volt meter, check to see if you have any voltage from the fixture.
4. Try it in another fixture, or try another bulb in the new fixture.

GoFast I am pretty technically inclined. To answer your questions

1) Yes tried in a few different outlets
2) The pins are making contact with the metal on the fixture
3) Do no have a volt meter.
4) Can not do so as I do not have another bulb or fixture.

So here is what I am going to supplement with instead. Should I moved the uvb lamp down a little or is it good where its at? Also it is not actually touching the wall. There is about two inches between the wall and the fixture itself.

Flukers Sun-Glow coil latern 10.0. I know that coil bulbs are not good for the health of the dragon but its the only source of UVB I can provide until I can't get a replacement on the reptisun hood which will be like another week. The bulb ran me about 22 bucks. Gah all of this could have been simplified and saved me money if the sales rep at petsmart told me I would need to buy an additional uvb bulb.

As a temporary solution, that is just fine. A decent chunk of the UV is being filtered by that screen, so I would just make sure the light is about a foot from the top of the basking site.

The light is quite bright which doesn't bother me but combined with the basking light I don't want to blind the dragon. Random question though does the dragon actually see the fluorescent UVB light as it would be visible to the human eye or is it filtered out?

Awesome got my replacment reptisun hood in the mail today. Plugged it up and everything works fine. I must just have not been that lucky with my first order from petmountain.
