Using Tile for enclosure

Hi,

I was thinking of putting tile in Ryders enclosure. He is in a 40G breeder tank which says its 36"L x 18"W. I would like to know what is the best type of tile to put into it? Also, if anyone has a 40GB tank and use tile what size did you buy and how many pieces did you get? If you have the exact measurements of the bottom of the tank that would be helpful too!

Exact measurements will vary. I use slate tile in a 40B tank. I have three 12x12" tiles, and three more half-tiles. However, mine overlap.

If you go to lowes or Home Depot, they should cut the tile for you. Ask if you can bring it back a few hours/days later to get adjustments done.

I got mine at lowe's. They came in a 6 pack (non glossy ceramic tile) and they cut them down to 18x18'' blocks that fit side by side in the tank. I have 3 sets so I can easily swap them if they get dirty.

We just recently upgraded to tile in a 40g. I got two 18"x18" and cut them down to 17"x 35" (total). I got them at Home Depot for $1.50 each and love them!

So I went out today and got 3 of the 36" x 6" (actual 35.24" x 5.79") Matte Porcelain Plank tiles that had some texture to them from Home Depot. It turns out that I didnt even need to have them cut They ended up fitting perfectly with just enough room on the sides so I can remove them when needed. I did added a small piece of duct tape folded over like a tab on one of them to make it easier to pull up.
