I have a 5 month old bearded dragon and have a Reptisun 10.0 (compact) for UVB in her enclosure. I'm concerned because I just came across an article on the internet that said only the Reptisun 10.0 TUBE UVB bulbs are safe and that the coil ones burn beardies' eyes and eventually cause death. I've never noticed her have any trouble with her eyes and she seems very content. Do I have anything to worry about? Please reply ASAP as I'm at work and have a pit in my stomach. Here's the link to the exact UVB light I have. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3577443

Thank you in advance for any help/advice you may have.

any type of uvb coil is no good. they cause death beacuase they give off a dangerous amount of uvb. they only last like a month anyway. and it tends to blind beardies also. i suggest u switch 2 a reptisun flourescent tube light ASAP.

Martie,
That is the exact same light the pet store sent me home with when I bought my dragon. While I'm no expert, I'll give you my opinion (it's free anyway). First, I didn't think the light output of the compact was NEARLY enough for a sun-loving, ground dwelling lizard. After 3 weeks with the light, I noticed my dragon was always twitching his eyes. I have no proof that the light was the cause, but I didn't want to chance it so I replaced it with a reptisun tube. Within two days my dragon's eyes were back to normal, and he was eating better. It could be coincidence, but it sure made a difference in my case. Since then, I have been putting him outside (time and weather permitting) anywhere from 2 to 5 hours a day in a screen reptarium from LLLreptile. Even though our high temps have only been in the mid 80s, the sun heats up a basking rock in there to 100 degrees. I feel like I have a new dragon. He has tons of energy, eats like a pig in his reptarium, and seems to really enjoy it. I hope for everyone's sake that these compacts are better than the forum members make them out to be (because they've sold a ton of them), but I will never go back to them.

you can change to the reptisun 10.0 tube , i have never had any problems with them and u will have a clearer conscience , I have heard to many complaints about the compacts never any about the tube fluorescents. thats all i use.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
