Urgent Help Needed

My girl Meeko was diagnosed with gout almost a month ago and I’ve had her on allopurinol for a couple weeks now- she was getting stronger and stronger every day until I came home from work about 20 minutes ago, and found her laying in the corner under her basking light completely pale, but eyes open and breathing. She won’t move any of her limbs and I currently have her in a lukewarm bath in case she overheated. When I found her, she had passed a urate but no poop, and the last time she pooped was yesterday. Right now she’s still pale, her eyes are opening and closing, and she’s breathing pretty normally.
Could she possibly be in renal failure?? Her basking temps stay around 95 and she’s usually sitting under the lamp all day and this has never happened before. Any help appreciated

Update- she’s cooled down a lot and I have her out of the bath now, she’s gotten slightly darker in color but now she’s not opening up her eyes at all, and beard completely black

Sounds like she's in a bad way. If you can get her to the vet today, that might be the thing to do. I have never experienced it with mine, but have seen a few other posts about pale beardies with black beards, and that was the advice given.

Thanks for the reply- vet closed at 6pm today so that’s out of the question for the rest of the day. But, she’s returned to normal colors and her eyes are open now, just very sunken. She’s still not moving much but she’s responsive to my touch now, so I think we’re pulling through. I’m assuming she overheated at this point, but she’s got so many issues with her kidneys that I don’t really know for sure. I’m trying to get her to drink through a syringe but no luck, I’ve never gotten her to do it before anyways.

Fingers crossed! I get mine to drink by dripping water on his snout and also by running water near him. I guess it makes him think of a stream or something. I’ve heard you can get them to open their mouth for meds & such by using a credit card along the side. But there is a risk of aspiration with forcing liquids, so if she’s stable for now, probably best not to try.

I read your other threads where the vet prescribed metacam as well as antibiotics. I think that has caused the severe condition. How long was she on each of those ? Metacam can cause seizures and both of those meds. affect the kidneys. Allopurinol + a bit of calcium would have been [ IMO ] the only things to give her.

I hope she survives, this is a serious development.

Hi, she actually isn’t on those anymore, the vet had me discontinue all antibiotics and pain meds as of the day she was diagnosed with her gout, currently im giving her .25ml of allopurinol and .1ml of Black cherry extract every day, and liquid calcium every other day. Since I want to make sure she’s staying hydrated and eating greens, I syringe feed her a slurry with spring mix minus spinach, squash, water, and a kidney supplement from Bug-De-Lite every day, and add multivitamins twice a week. This seems to be the only way she’ll take water though, she won’t take it out of a syringe dripped onto her nose, won’t drink in the bath, and won’t drink out of her dish. I’ve been trying to find a solution to this for a while now but she’s very stubborn.

As of right now, all of the lights in her room are off since it’s bed time, but every time I’ve gone to check on her (which has been a little frequent since I’m so worried) she has been awake. She usually sleeps like a log so I’m not sure what to think of this. Other than that, we seem to be coming back down to normal again.

Update for you guys- we’ve taken a turn for the worse. I gave her 2 syringes full of water this morning that she drank willingly before I left for class, but she wasn’t moving any of her limbs and only got around by wiggling her body. When I came home just now, she’s back to doing the exact thing I came home to yesterday, but on the cool side this time. I think this is telling me that it’s her kidneys going, not her overheating. The lower half of her body has been spasming as well. I’m about to get on the phone with the vet to see what my next step should be, or when I can take her in to get her put to sleep. Thank you guys for all of the help you’ve offered me with her, I really appreciate every single one of you.

Poor thing. I am glad she is no longer suffering and that she had a caring owner who loved her. Hang in there!
