"Urgent Help Needed" report?

Hey, everyone...

Am I correct in my observations that the mods here are very experienced and knowledgeable about beardies and their care? I know for sure at least several of them are. I hate it when I come across a user who recently posts something needing seriously urgent help and I don't know enough to offer much insight. I am almost positive that if one of the mods were made more quickly aware of these threads/posts then we may be able to help beardies in dire need. I could see where there may be complications, but is there any way we could maybe conduct a trial run for a "Needs urgent advice" report reasoning option? I'm not 100% sure how it works here, but I've moderated on other forums and we used to all get notifications immediately for every report and at least one of us was always around to take care of it.

Any thoughts...?

I was just thinking the same thing recently - I don't want the person with the emergency to lose interest and leave the forum, so I try my best to engage them and at least ask the basic questions about their husbandry and situation, if for nothing to keep the post bumped up to the top, but really my experience is limited and so is my advice.

The problem is that nearly every bearded dragon problem will be marked as 'Emergency', just look at the Beardie ER and see how many non-Emergency topics are put in there already.

Yeah, that was one of the problems I could kinda foresee... I'm not sure how difficult it would be, but is there any way to make it to where people can't report their own posts as an emergency? Besides, if the thread is in the wrong place (in ER when clearly not an emergency) then wouldn't mods want to know about the post anyway so they could move it?

Eeep, prolapse... PM Tracie (Drache613) and she can help you with that, or make a thread in the "Health" or "ER" section. She'll probably need to see a vet

I think the best thing is that if it is something that should be in "Beardie ER" but was posted elsewhere, report it to be moved to Beardie ER. Many people don't know about that forum, or don't think about it.

Unfortunately, we do have a bit of clutter in Beardie ER, as people sometimes tend to think that any issue is urgent (at least, to them it seems that way). It's tough to keep it focused, while also not hurting feelings too much for those who are genuinely concerned about an issue.

Moderators are not necessarily the most knowledgeable. While the moderators here are fantastic resources of knowledge about beardies, their status as a moderator is not intended to indicate knowledge. "Moderators" are primarily here to help keep the peace and keep things organized. The knowledge comes from all of you... the members. There are many who simply love to help, and have a great amount of knowledge to share. Even I, as the owner/administrator, will regularly admit that my knowledge is limited to only my own experience, and I was blessed to not have too many big issues with my beardies. Of course, I've learned from others as well, in areas I don't have first hand experience in. That's part of the joy of this site.

Hi Alex, thanks for the response and hope you're doing well!

I understand that the mods weren't put in place for their level of beardie knowledge, but it seems that they all just happen to be very knowledgeable lol. I suppose if I see something that should be in ER but isn't already then I can report the thread & suggest that it be moved. I feel like I've made friends with several very experienced people here already, so I've been PMing them links to threads which I think could really use their attention/advice (Thanks Tracie & Deb, hope I'm not driving you crazy haha!) I understand what you mean about some people's ER posts not really being emergencies, like my own thread, here >>> viewtopic.php?f=45&t=168287&hilit=+Choking Haha looking back on it now it's kind of funny & ridiculous, but at the moment I was a brand new owner and soooo scared that my baby may be in danger... so I can certainly identify with the sentiment. Anyway, you answered my question just fine Alex & I appreciate it. I'll continue doing what I'm doing - I'm sure that will be adequate
