Up and Down with Feisty

Hi all,

Feisty has been seemingly better but we've been noticing a few things, that escalated today.

She's within the last month started to seem restless and pacing a lot on one day and then the next seeming very lethargic, staying in her cool area, especially in the section out of the light. She's also pooping irregularly (From once a day between 11am-1pm to once every 3 days), and it's not solid when she does.

Today I came home from work, took her out her viv and she black bearded and scrambled around, until I put her down and she had diarrhoea everywhere! I'm so worried about her again as she's usually really friendly with me.

She recently shed, she eats a bowl of mixed veg everyday, hoppers 3 times a week, her veg gets dusted with calcium every other day. We regularly clean her (although she hates baths so they're quite short) and handle her everyday. Her temperatures at 40°C in the basking spot, 25°C in her cold section. Humidity is 30-40%, she usually has a basil and/or parsley plant (recommended by our vet when she started eating fake plants to boost her eating as she didn't eat much). We haven't changed her surroundings or anything, the only new thing is the fact we're incubating corn snake eggs but I don't know if that would change anything or not.

Does anyone have any idea why or what could be the cause of this? Is it typical breeding behaviour as she does have follicular stasis.

Thanks!

Hi there, who and when was she diagnosed with follicular stasis ? From what I've read that usually mean that the follicles are stuck in the ovaries and need to be removed. What did the vet say + did they prescribe any treatment ? Is the vet very knowledgeable with beardies ? The black beard + diarrhea indicate stress , Feisty's really not feeling well.

She was diagnosed with follicular stasis back in February but on our last visit to the vet (who is a reptile specialist), the follicles had shrunk to the point where they were difficult to find on the ultrasound. The vet had said the problems were probably linked to her previous owner who was negligent, feeding her a diet of only crickets with out of date calcium. Since We first took her to the vets, they've said he's like a totally different animal, improving quickly. We haven't seen any scratching or signs the vet warned us to watch for that would indicate her condition worsening.
We have got a check up for the 21st though I'm probably going to see if that can be moved forward. I know she's clearly stressed but we have no idea why. We haven't changed her diet proportions, we vary what she eats and check it's okay for her first, we haven't changed any of her set up :( I just want my girly to by better and stay better, especially since she's been doing so well!
Could she have a messed up cycle and be trying to brumate or could there be any stress for breeding this time of the year? Anything at all that could be causing the stress in her condition?

Oh good, then the follicles must have resorbed and did not cause further problem. As long as they don't become shelled eggs the follicles can resorb. So it is possible that she's going through a stage now of feeling the urge to breed and/or possibly developing more eggs.

Could it be a case of more follicles forming due to mating season which is putting further strain on her system, causing the lethargy and problems pooping?
Just got home from work and she was mouth gaping in the cold section: she has a low humidity (25%) and 45°C in her hot section, 31°C in her cold. She's a lot more friendly today and pretty much her regular self but she hasn't pooped again! :(

Good thing you listed her temps, it may be part of the problem because it's too hot. The cool side should be 25-27 C and the hot side 37-39 C for an adult. Her heat is too high and the humidity is too low. Try spritzing her tank twice a day to raise it up to 35-45 %.

And yes, she could be developing more eggs, most mature females do.

Yeah, as soon as I read the values I sprayed her viv, filled her water dish right up and popped a vent in the viv. We now have a nice 35% humidity, and both sections are dropping. Feisty is now chomping on some veggies after having basked for a bit :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
